The landline? By Hard-Drive I assume he means something recorded onto a Sky (other brands are available) sort of device, otherwise im completely lost.

my OH works in IT and we have hard drive storage units which are wireless for down loading and storing tv sereis we watch as well as other storage things as well for out photos and music etc so I have no idea what Al was on about as Ithought most people had wireless connetions and mot the old dial up modems but I guess there must still be places that haven't got that as yet.
We also have a freeview box which we are able to record programmes onto same thing Sky is now doing along with memory sticks for stuff as well so no idea beligerent-londoner101..........mystery to me!
I took the reference to the landline to mean that Alistair wondered whether the line had been clear so Shula could ring if she wanted to. I assumed he was asking whether Dan had been on the phone. I can't beleive they'd have a dial-up collection. -They could use dongles even if there's no broadband and I think we'd have been told if there wasn't BB anyway.
I assumed that the reference to 'hard drive' was a brand-neutral term for a digital video recorder/Sky+ Box or similar. Either that or Alistair and Dan share their collections of porn.

Oh thank you for that image, thanks so much.
As regards the quality of their internet connection, we can but hope.

I doubt that. Al's very much a traditionalist, and his stash will be paper based and kept in a box in the loft marked "Accounts".
…a box in the loft marked "Accounts". Just don't look in the one labelled "Animal Husbandry"…

I thought they meant that too -
Landline is for Shula possibly ringing ... and Alasdair being anxious on account of Clive
Hard Drive is wot you record TV progs on. I always call it hard-drive cos the name of ours sounds like `humous' and seems silly. That's if I can remember it cos I often can't ..
