Daniel and Alistair were driving from Borchester towards Ambridge after Parents Evening, right?
They past Clive, who was trying to get into Borchester? So he must have been standing on the other side of the road?
So Matt must have been driving towards Borchester when he picked up Clive, so must have been driving in the opposite direction to Ambridge, and yet was going home at the time?
I am completely lost.
Clive was heading for Ambridge to see Ivy not Borchester. Hope that helps.

annnd I quote..
"if you can get me as far as Borchester".
Yes you're right but now I come to think of it Daniel is a pupil at the Cathedral School in Felpersham so it does make sense that they were all on the road from Felphersham to Ambridge via the Borchester Bypass.

*Plot Fairy*
(thunderous applause)
…ah! here comes Cloive 'Orrible with his big box of Swan Vestas…
I thought he sounded as if he was in his late teens or early twenties.

I just looked in the 'Oo's Ooo and see that Ambridge's Favourite Arsonist was born in 1972, which makes 'im ~39, but I'm still puzzled as 'ee sounds at least 20 years younger than that; p'raps being in the slammer keeps you young. In fact at the very beginning I thort it were Fat Dan 'oo wuz 'ich 'eyekin along the Borchester-Bypass. Good that he met up wiv' a fellow old-lag, that did my old 'art a world of gud!

As I recall Clive told Matt he was living in a hostel in Felpersham.
