I am finding it harder and harder to listen to Erin's interactions with Daniel. I find it hard to believe that she is just being friendly to him - sometimes she seems almost ot be stalking him, yet she is still apparently going out with Rafe (Ralph?).

But Daniel is being so slow on the uptake, what do you expect her to do, to show him she likes him but without being full-on?

I can quite see why Daniel is confused. What's the point of flaunting Rafe in his face all the time if she is interested? Taking him to the pub, and running straight off to Rafe as soon as she sees him, leaving Daniel by himself? Kissing Rafe in front of him, calling Rafe Babe, or whatever it was? She certainly makes a good juob of making me think that she is still with Rafe, and somehow playying with Daniel.

True. Sounds like Erin is confused, too. Teenagers huh!

Strikes me as a bit of a frivolous airhead - calls on Daniel any time she's bored, thern drops him again as soon as Ralph appears.
Incidentally, what's she drinking while she's out? If she's driving home… (Or have I misunderstood something?)
Not /another/ car crash, surely?

Yes, she may have no idea the effect she is having on Dan and is just wanting to add him to her collection of courtiers without stopping to think he might get hurt. When girls get a lot of attention for their looks it can go to their heads and they can wreak havoc unwittingly.
Remember Bathsheba and Farmer Boldwood and that fatal Valentine?

Maybe she is trying to show to Dan how popular she is, so that he might be more interested in her?

Could be, Bette, but to me she sounds as though she is not really interested in Daniel THAT way, just wants to keep him on a string as a 'spare' for when she's bored. I've known girls like that. Mostly they grow up and turn out fine, but some remain fixed in that stage forever.

Surely in 2011 a girl is allowed to be friendly with a boy without it being part of a mating ritual?
Urges being urges there will probably be a bit of action eventually.

All part of growing up IMO
I spent a good part of my youth miss reading signals from girls. Looking back I spent a great deal of time trying to further things with girls who just wanted to be friends while being pals with girls who clearly wanted a little more.
Lets be fair its a difficult time, not quite an adult, more than a child, hormones raging, body changing as well as trying to study and make choices that will affect the rest of your life.
Life is much easier in my mid 40s

I find it even harder now than I did in my teens to persuade teenage girls to go to bed with me.
Loved "miss reading"

Yes I do find Eron creepy. And I feel sorry for Rafe - she obviously regards him as a trophy yet would be happy to dump him should someone more interesting come along.

I think Erin seea Dan as a bit of a challenge and useful when Ralph isn't available. She sounds as though she needs *all* males hanging out their tongues when she's around.

Am cynical.
I see Erin regarding Dan (in no particular order) as
(1) A statutory male - cos she always needs one hanging on or around;
(2) A help with her project - he is intelligent and hard working;
(3) A good contact because of Alastair being a Vet.
She'll break his heart! But maybe it'll be a lesson to him - not to make such a mistake again.

She's treating him like a female friend. I dunno why. I think it must be his geekiness that makes her think, mistakenly, that he's not interested in her THAT way.

I don't like Erin at all. She'll break Dan's heart eventually, I'm fairly certain.

So long as she breaks his duck first he won't mind.
Better to have swived and lost than never to have swived at all.

I'm beginning to think her interest in Dan has peaked since he foolishly told her he volunteered for the Samaritans.
Possibly she is hiding a very deep dark secret, maybe it wasn't glandular fever but depression/suicide attempt instead that made her miss so much school.
I am predicting that young Daniel will find Erin will have an "emosh" breakdown and beg him for advice....

I have a feeling that Erin likes Dan because of Alastair and his veterinarian contacts. He has also virtually promised her some work experience or similar.
Course I may be wrong ..

BunSoc - Why so suspicious? Can't she just like the boy, even if he is a little younger than her?
Alasdair did not exactly volunteer - rather scheming Shula forced him into the offer.
Serve her right when they finish up swiving in the surgery.

I am probably being a little too paranoid but I am detecting an unhealthy interest in Alastair. This might be just because he could be so useful in her application to insanely competitive vet med but it could also be something more sinister. Alastair is justifiably wary of getting himself into a potentially career threatening position with a teenage girl and greatly upsetting Daniel in the process.
