The Vicar will have to move, when it is revealed that Katherine was the father of Eamon!
Or some such high drama.
As long as Alan Franks goes, along with Utha, all is fine.

I don't see where this CAN go.
Whatever the deceased wife did is hardly relevant to TVOA who knew nothing of it.
But there must be some point?
°Â³ó²â?Ìý
Because, Reggie, this sensationalist rubbish writing is just pathetic.
Bad enough the teen porn by old men writing this series so far, now we have the Formerly-perfect Katherine, daughter of Formerly-perfectcorrectsewer Mabel, and mother of the Formerly-perfectlyboring Amy, is appaerntly a child criminal.
And she didn't tell her still Boring husband, Accountant Alan.
Believeable?
Nil points.

With the emphasis on the 'apparently'. The story has only been introduced today and we have no idea where it is going to go, whether it will be sensationalist or what Katherine's offence, if there was one (as Usha has already pointed out), or her character, will turn out to be. Or indeed precisely what Mabel's involvement was.
Far too early for such sweeping judgements.
And there was me wondering if Catherine had had a child ... - but she wouldn't then have been put be in a secure institution.

It's all going to be a false alarum.
Late wife's mother lived at the home with her when she was a housemother/caretaker there.
Oh come on Reggie!
Letters saying Katherine was punished for dropping her pillow, Mabel keeping stchtumm all the time she's known Alan, letters to auntie about being unhappy, a YEAR away - hardly community service!
Katherine was probably committed to the secure unit after being convicted of larceny of copious amounts of mince pies, thereby anticipating the obsession of the man who became her husband.

Did Alan or Usha mention any dates?
Amy's what, 22 or 23, so Alan and Katherine must be/would have been late 40s or 50ish...so we're talking mid-70s. Not exactly ancient history, and certainly not being sent away for an out-of-wedlock pregnancy.

Actually I suspect "being sent away for an out-of-wedlock pregnancy." was still going strong in the mid 70s. It was certainly still a scandal - especially amongst the religiously inclined.
The last Magdalene Laundry closed in 1996.

No, I think 'secure hone' suggests criminal convictions rather than pregnancy.
There'd need to be a connection with today or an impact on Alan/Amy. Hmmm.

I think I heard the 60s mentioned. Catherine could have been as young as 12/13 or even younger ..

We now know Katharine was 14, and she stabbed someone.
I now see the link. Someone in Ambridge gets stabbed, Alan accuses Amy! He runs around in circles clucking like a turkey.
And LEAVES! Hooray!
I think it will turn into a personal thought provoking Christmas day sermon from Alan.
TVOA is a sad sack, why should (now-dead) Catherines (ludicrous) ancient criminal history be his business, let alone boring-Amy.
What was Catherines job, she was obviously never CRB checked.
What drivel.

I suppose it might, conceivably, lead to some sort of crisis of faith {"why didn't you tell me, God, if Catherine didn't"), which might lead him to resign his post.
Or he might decide his true calling is amongst inner-city, young offenders etc.
As has been pointed out in DTA before now, he originally said he was planning to stay in Ambridge for 8 (I think) years, which is about the average for a vicar of his grade.

That is not daft.
And, looking up the telescope to the script conference
"We need to get rid of TVOA. Let's brainstorm(oops sorry-what's the new pc word?) why he might go"

Coo, high praise! Thanks OI (-:

Katharine was a midwife.
She died when Amy was 6, and this lead to Alan giving up Accountancy and "following his dream" as encouraged by Amy, going to vicar school, and overstaying his welcome in Ambridge.
That's my profession and I don't think I would have got clearence to work had I stabbed someone in the past.
I have to declare points on my driving licence fgs!!
This storyline goes from bad to worse.

Yes but Catherine was a midwiife yonks and yonks ago ..
Long before Criminal checks were made.
And since she committed her crime at 14 - conviction would have been spent before she finished her training

I guess there'll be some racial element in this: taunts from Catherine's classmates that drove her to her crime? Usha will do some research and find that Catherine was wrongly convicted, or, at least, greatly provoked...
Mind you, I predicted that Clive was about to take revenge (again), not so sure now - may have to wait another few years...

Usha will do some research and find that Catherine was wrongly convicted, or, at least, greatly provoked...Ìý But HOW will she find out? Katharine would not tell Mabel, (who presumably sat through the hearing, as well as, as she told the Fat One, kept asking Katharine afterwards.)
