I got interrupted by work, and only caught the last 5 seconds or so of slurping noises, and "no, we musn't! Yes, we must!". Can someone just let me know if Alistair encouraged/participated in this scene, or if she totally jumped him and he was fighting her off?
If he was jumped by the young woman, I shall lose whatever iota of respect I have for the man if he doesn't IMMEDIATELY tell Shula about this. If he participated, well... he's already sleazy in my mind, so of course he wouldn't own up to Shula, that kind of man doesn't mind hiding that sort of behavior.

Oh, Ali was definitely a willing participant. His breathy thought of 'So fresh' as he was snogging her, suggested that if nothing else!
Also, she kissed him first, which might be seen as a 'thank you' kiss (presumably it was a kiss on the cheek, but who knows!) which he thought 'nice' to - before obviously wanting more!

Wow! He's beyond selfish! Not only showing no respect for his wife, but none for his son, either, all because it's flattering to his ego, and it feels good! I now consider him a Total Jerk. When this comes out (as we all know it probably will), it's going to be such an ugly scene.... I wonder if Shula will be as forgiving of this behavior as she was of the gambling? At least betting is an addiction, this is just thoughless and hurtful.

I think the fair interpretation is that Al did not initiate, but was just a little too slow to stop her.
What's most interesting to me is what affect this will have on them being in TA seeing as obviously they appear in that now and then!
Will it just be ignored like the Alice/Chris stuff, as if it never happened?
Course, this isn't quite the same thing. Alice and Chris are almost in the 'kids' category so not as prominent as characters like Ali and Shula are.
This is the problem with TAX, of course, when it's supposed to be completely seperate from TA.
It was truly horrible

But Al can be arrested in TA
Spot on: we can't get too involved in it because the format dictates that it has to fizzle out as though nothing had ever happened, like any remotely interesting AmEx storyline that is too big to be allowed through the wormhole. It's the fatal flaw in the concept, unfortunately.
I can therefore confidently predict that the confrontation between Alistair and Dan that ought to occur will not, and that Erin will somehow be squared so that when she dumps Dan she does not tell him it's because she's fancied Alistair all along. In other words it will be an annoying and unconvincing stitch-up.

He didn't initiate but he's been prepared for this, has seen it coming for ages so should have been well able to stop it before it happened. Instead he got right into it straight away. So fresh, indeed.
He's a grown man. And a vet. He should be used to daft wimmin of all ages having crushes on him. (Vets do tend to be lovely, and kind to animals, women fall for them all the time. I've never met a nasty vet.)
And what happened to all that relief, all that, how great for Dan and let's go buy a DJ and bond? This is really horribly clumsily done.
Or am I being naive and do all middle-aged men automatically snog back when their son's girlfriends kiss them?

em, what for? She's not underage is she? 16 is still the age of consent isn't it? (Not sure there even is an age of consent for snogging.) Or do you mean him buying her a white wine? If she's not yet 18 I suppose this could be an issue.

Depends what her version of the event is.
"I was feeling woozy after all that wine and at first I didn't realise what he was doing. Then he said he would show me where my perinaeum was"

Erin doesn't neesd to 'dump' Dan - they're not going ouit together! They did some studying together, they had one snog, Dan saw her when she came to see Ali, and he hadn't seen her for a week, she'd kept out of his way for that long, so he had to pluck up courage to ask her to go with him to this shindig.
He wouldn't have to do that if she was his girlfriend.
So she's not his girlfriend, she's just a friend she toys with!
Shula, of course, thinks it's 'geting serious between them' cos they're going to this party, yet anyone can go, even Amy's deciding to go. I doubt she'd gonna marry whoever she might go with! Likewise, Dan's mate Gav was gonna use the fact Dan had found someone to go with, to try and persuade some girl to go with him.
Shula's got a fantasy going here and it'll be shatterd even more than the simple truth there's nothing going on between Dan and Eirn when she finds out what IS going on between Erin and Ali!
I hope she finds out, anyway!

Erin (for it is she): "Ooooh Alistair, is that a stethoscope in your pocket or are you just glad to see me?"
I wonder whether Shulugh will ask Ali why he's walking in such a strange and pained way when he gets home.
Ali wasn't snogging his son's girlfriend cos she's not his girlfriend. She certainly doesn't talk and act like his girlfriend, just like a young woman who enjoys toying with and teasing a shy boy who clearly would like to fancy the pants off her and she knows it.
And of course she's used him to get access to Ali! Plus, he had to pluck up courage to ask her to this dance - when she'd been nowhere near him for a week - which he wouldn't have had to do if they were going out together.
Tho of course, it sounds better to call her his girfriend after what she's been doing to (and now WITH!) Ali! lol
Erin long ago found Daniel boring - he just doesn't know it yet. He has become necessary as a convenient bridge to get to his Dad. He'll find this out at the ball.
What a shabby, scheming tart she is.

If she makes accusations against Ali he won't be going to the ball!
The glass(es?) of wine were a rather obvious hint of what is to come.
Which is not Dan.

I'd keen to know exactly why Erin has missed a year of school and has started at a new one. Something murky from the past that we are going to find out about?

Why a professional hearing? He's not a doctor, he's a vet, and she's not one of his patients!
Isn't the ball after the series ends? I suppose that there is no time schedule to Am. Ex., as there is with TA, but it might be stretching it a bit to get to the ball days before New Year.
I think that Erin made the running, but Alistair didn't resist (or at least not quickly enough - he did pull away once his brain kicked in).
From the disgusting slurping noises, he not only didn't resist but had a purvey thought "how fresh".... HOW DISGUSTING!
I have a feeling this one will bleed into TA and suspect that Erin had a year out of school before for the very same thing somewhere else. I can only imagine the 'cry rape' that's coming next.
But seriously, just this one time, can the SW keep his wotsit in his pants please? This seriously put me off my lunch.
Ewwwwwwwwwwwwww
Alistair was divorced before he met Shula. Wonder what happened in his former marriage?
I suggested elsewhere that Erin's 'illness' that kept her out of school for a year may just have been what led up to and then involved termination of a pregnancy.
Just a thought.

We are told she had glandular fever.
I think SHE told us that. Whether you believe that is up to you.

Nor I.
However, if an attractive 17/18 girl threw herself at me in the way that Erin has, I suspect that I would be thinking with trousers, not brain.
The glandular fever reference appears in the Who's Who? section of this site so is presumably authoritative, in just the same way as Helen remains doggedly independent.

Or even without trousers?
What I perceive happened is that she gave him what initially he perceived as a "thank-you" kiss, but when she failed to break off he responded from urge, then after ~5 seconds decided it must stop.
They can both decide that it WAS just a thank-you, to avoid embarrassment - and Al can say that whilst he would greatly enjoy a liaison he is happily married and unavailable - and anyway she is Dan's age not his. Then they can carry on as before - with the odd smile and knowing look.
But that won't happen!

Did she, though? The first was a brief 'peck' but we don't know who instigated the follow-up snog.

In the double telly guide it does confirm that episode 26/26 is on Thursday December 29, so they didn't miss out a week, or something, to stretch it into the New Year!

Yes, to my hearing, it was a brief kiss from her to him first (to which Ali says 'nice') and that was followed by the snog which in which Ali though Erin was 'so fresh'

I think Shula would forgive Alastair actually, provided he nips it in the bud straight away. He and Shula need a joint strategy to protect Dan so he needs to come clean with her now that Erin has progressed from ambiguous texts to a full-on proposition.

I think that Erin was less innocent in the whole matter than that. "Thank you" may have been an excuse to kiss Alistair, but it was aftrer she had gone about how wonderful Alastair was - and not just as a vet who was helping her with her career. He himself was wonderful too.

And she didn't want to stop.
But of course she could make it into something that it wasn't, if she so chooses.
And given that this series is due to run until Dec 29th, I think she will do exactly that. OR in a drunken thingy, she will trumpet to her innocent boy escort Daniel what she and Alistair get up to - but dress it in lurid terms.
Just think back to Chaz in series one? Oh yes, there is previous on this kind of nasty over-writing.

I'm not very comfortable with the presumption that because an 18 year old woman has behaved very naively and inadvisedly with an older married man, she is some kind of loose moralled, serial strumpet who has probably been up the duff. I suspect that might be the way the story is going in order to get Alistair off the hook in time for the end of the series, but it's very unpleasant all the same......

It would be possible for it all to be regarded as a minor embarrassment to be forgotten about - but that is unlikely in TA - or, these days, RL.
At least one of Al/Erin must be blamed and regarded as sexually sediant.

<< because an 18 year old woman has behaved very naively and inadvisedly with an older married man, she is some kind of loose moralled, serial strumpet who has probably been up the duff. >>
I don't think that's Erin. Actually, if she WERE all of the above it would pose far less of a problem for Alistair as she would probably be able to take 'no' for an answer. As it is, we have heard her be extremely manipulative with both Daniel and Alistair and is now sounding seriously disturbed and could make a lot trouble if she takes rejection badly. He really should have known better. He's been an adult an awful lot longer than Erin has.
Alistair has been amazingly stupid because alarm bells were ringing loud and clear in his head (we heard them!) right from the start.

Posted by The Giddy Kipper (U10918464) on Sunday, 11th December 2011
Maybe not, but she's 18. I don't really like this idea that a young woman can become this sexually manipulative and desperate for sexual attention from someone so unsuitable on purpose and all of her own accord by her age. It's not usual but there seems to be the presumption that it is normal and predictable for an 18 year old 'school girl' to be a knowing 'temptress'.
I'm interested in how the SL will go, because if it turns out she has form and Alistair walks away from it, despite his behaviour, then it's all a bit creepy on behalf of the writers, who have gone out of their way to write a sixth former who is 'willing and legal' never mind 'so fresh' ......slightly stomach churning in what it implies

She's 17 not 18.

I agree, especially about the 'so fresh'.
<< the presumption that it is normal and predictable for an 18 year old 'school girl' to be a knowing 'temptress'. >>
However, I'm not sure they are presenting it as normal and predictable behaviour. I think we may hear some kind of back story for Erin. Abuse or mental health problems.
I do find the writing prurient, though. I'm ALMOST tempted to stop listening but will probably persist.

Yes, when she was first mentioned her relationship with her step dad there was the thought she was looking for attention and a 'father figure', and her attitude that sexual attention is good attention does imply a history of abuse, but I'm not sure the SL will go that way....I'm not sure why other than there isn't much time to address it and that the SWs always seem to set up a plot then completely ignore the most realistic development of it
