    Phoebe's a bit of a brat, isn't she?

Shows that Mendel was on to something.

...now listening to Kate rushing off and leaving Phoebe in a busy shopping centre. Gawd, they deserve each other!

She sounds like a fairly typical teenager to me, ermitrude - though actually rather more polite than many!

I actually think it's Mandisa that's the real brat. Her insistance that Pheobe go on the camping trip, despite Pheobs saying Roy and Hayley would be upset, verged on bullying and it was Mandisa that encouraged Pheobe the break into Kate's computer to order jeans without permission and then read Lucas' e-mail.
Pheob's is just too eak to stand up to her friend, not like Kate at all.

I think that's being a bit unfair on teenagers to be honest. My daughter is nearly 16, and I know and/or have met plenty of her friends/others in her year, and the vast majority of teenagers in my experience are polite and decent young people - as they were in my day actually.

Most teenagers are polite to other adults. They can be /very/ impolite towards their parents, though. I thought that Phoebe was very accommodating towards Kate - especially since the latter left her in the lurch!

Bette I was posting while listening, in reference to that first scene where Phoebe was badgering Kate to go off with Mandisa - I wouldn't have been too impressed with that! I thought she was lovely with Delia at the Mall though - very polite and self-effacing and then enjoying the selling, and then teenagery and giggly when Mandisa turned up. Rather good acting from Phoebe's actress I thought,

I'm undecided on my opinion of Phoebe so far the evidence is inconclusive as even nice teenagers can behave like brats at times. I think how she reacts to her first glimpse behind her mother's facade will be very telling. She is only half Kate and has been raised by Roy and Hayley so there is hope that she could turn out ok.

I totally agree about Mandissa. Even when DD2 was going through her most obnoxious stage I don't think she would have attempted to buy stuff online with my credit card, nor hack her way into my email.

Mandissa sounds very selfish to me and Pheebs is too much in awe of her to stand up to her friend's machinations.

    I sympathised with Phoebe.

Kate thinks she is Phoebes friend - she is *not* - and leaving her on her own in the middle of the mall during "Quality Time" takes the biscuit ..

I think too that Kate needs to become acquainted with the real world - Michael and Delia were too kind to her (IMHO) in thinking it is because of her immersion in her "project" which prevents her taking an interest in the Durban post

I agree with you, Mandisa bullied Feebs, I dont think Feebs would have broken into the computer either, and certainly not bought expensive jeans and read Kates emails. I also dont think she was bothered about the camping trip, she didn't want to upset Roy and Hayley, who have brought her up well. Must have been very difficult with Kate appearing every now and then to spoil her rotten.

Mandisa is dangerous. I agree with what everyone else has said about her and would add that she is gobby, has few scruples and is at the age when other people'ssex lives are especitally interesting, but not yet of sufficient maturity to realise what conesequences affairs &c can have. I think it will be her who will spill the beans on Kate and Lucas, bringing everything crashing down round Pheobe's ears.

But *Kate* encouraged her to buy the jeans in the first place and told her she would get a discount if buying online.

Mandisa is a bit of a madam though I agree ..

Yes, Kate did encourage Pheebs to buy the jeans but I don't remember her saying as she rushed off 'Oh, by the way, please hack into my computer, use my credit card and have a gander at my emails whilst you're at it'.

Mandissa and Feebs both know that what they did was completely out of order, even as far as Kate is concerned.'

If Lucas finds out (how can he not?) my bet's on him giving Kate her marching orders, whereupon Pheebs AND Kate will be winging back to Ambridge a wee bit faster than Roy is expecting.

Of course, Kate will avoid any responsibility - as per usual - hand Pheobe over to Roy and Hayley for some emotional sorting out and the it'll be round to Brine and Jenni's for some cheque book therapy!

As far as we know Pheobe has not:

    broken any law
    smoked
    taken drugs
    stolen
    played truant
    drunk alcahol
    had a sexual relationship
    lied
    cheated
had a tattoo or intimate body piercing
been involved in any kind of physical violence
    said or thought anything racist
    said or thought anything homophobic
    said or thought anything sexist

we have no reason to believe that she is anything but a good student at school (ie does her homework, is attentive in class, respects teachers etc). She makes froends easily and considering they are from a different culture and she is teh foreign outsider, that's no mean feat. I'm not sure I woudl be able to do it in such a short space of time.

She may be guilty of being insensitive to Hayley, a bit self absorbed and shallow and selfish but I don't think that really makes her a brat. I think that is part of being a teenager and certainly part of being human. We are all like that to some degree, it's just that it is often at the fore in our teens. Oh, and at 14, she is showing an interest in boys & has a crush on her friend's brother. Pretty normal I would have thought.

    She's got a crush on her friend's sister's boyfriend.

I agree with you though, she's always come across as a decent girl - because she's had a good upbringing with her dad and mum (I know Kate gave birth to her, but her mum is Hayley)

I thought Phoebe came over quite well in that episode. Although she was sounding a bit like a chip off the old block at the beginning, she did give in when Kate spoke wisfully about quality time. The interaction with Delia was good, and I agree that she was pushed by Mandisa into the jeans buying and email prying. While Kate hadn't given her permission to buy the jeans, I can see how Kate's attitude of 'never mind the price, buy whatever you like' would influence Phoebe to go along with Mandisa.

Overall I thought a good portrayal of a 14 year old - more realistic than the teens we get on the main programme.

I assume Kate has programmed her laptop to remember her username and password - not sensible, but this is Kate.

Ooooooh Noooo! Please lets not have Kate back in Ambridge i can just about put up with her when she's only on Amex and in SA, Pheobe's OK but if she's back in Ambridge we'll get more tedious teenage angst in TA.

I never intended to listen to Amex but have to admit I'm enjoying it!

No she hasn't - Mandisa had to guess it ..

A bit of an obvious choice of password though!

In total agreement that Phoebe is a basically decent kid, but Mandisa is a little madam!

I'm really liking Delia as well. She comes across as a lovely lady, and very sharp too.
