Mandisa must have had loads of friends before Phoebe came on the scene. She is portrayed as very outgoing. So what has happened to them? She and Phoebe seem to have a very exclusive sort of friendship for 14 year olds.

There is a limit to their budget if you want spoken friends - but they are portrayed as within a group.

But isn't it normal for girls that age to have a single closest friendship?

Mandisa has been portrayed as with friends, e.g., when Phoebe had to go to the mall with Kate. Didn't she go off with someone in the first episode, too, leaving Phoebe in the mall?

I thought Mandisa was actually a cousin of Lucas' (and possibly the person who did a lot of the childcare when Kate was in the UK), but perhaps I have got confused.

I think that she was described as living next door to Kate and Lucas, in a previous series, or maybe even in TA, though the story where Milton drove her home, but Phoebe wouldn't let him take her right to the door made no sense if that was so - surely Lucas would have known Milton if they lived next door?

Milton is actually Mandisa's sister's boyfriend. Keri apologised for getting it wrong in the blog. I think you're right about Mandisa living next door to Kate and Lucas.

Oh, yes. I did kind of know that, but the bit about him being Mandisa's brother hasn't quite got out of my head ...

I find it distracting hearing Mandisa's voice. When I first heard it I thought she sounded in her 20's.

Knowing the voice belongs to a 30 year old woman, even tho it IS only a voice,I find it hard, now, to imagine her as a 14 year old!

The perils of too much information.

I would have just carried on thinking - in the same way someone like Christine doesn't sound over 80 - that she just sounded old for her age, and tho she was obviously older than 14, she was probably about 18 or something.

But then I went to look at what was said about TAX and her picture was there. It was a picture of someone clearly way past her teens so curiosity got the better of me and I looked her up and discovered an intervew with her from August 2010 where she was said to be 28.

So it was the picture that did it. You'd think that as they HAD hired a 30 year old womant to voice a 14 year old, they wouldn't exactlyh broadcast the fact, specially as it's only for 3 months!

So ... it's distracting to me now, but as Pheebs is going home next week, presumably we've almost heard the last of her.

Well, till just now I didn't know the actor was aged 28, and thought she sounded fine as a 14 year old.

    She was 28 in 2010. She's 30 now.

I spose we all hear things differently! But as I said, the first time I heard her talk I thought she sounded a lot of older than 14m but I never imagined she'd be 30!

This is the problem with knowing about the actors. Reality intrudes in perception.

WHY does ´óÏó´«Ã½ think we want to know about actors?

I would prefer them to be unidentified.

    Me! Me! Me!

I suspect the actors would like to be identified, it's part of their CV. And, guess what, if they're going to be stage actors it can help to know what they look like.

For MANY MANY of us it is quite possible to make a total distinction between what we know actors look like and the parts they play. Particularly anybody who has professional actors as friends.

Peggy I have no desire to stop actors being identified on the Archers website.

I simply wish NOT to have their visual images forced on me if I want, say, to check who Tracey is in who's Who, to see if she is chasing Ifty yet married to Keef.

Your previous post said: WHY does ´óÏó´«Ã½ think we want to know about actors?

    That's what I replied to.

This is not the same as what you are now saying: Peggy I have no desire to stop actors being identified on the Archers website.

I want to know who are the actors so that when they do something else so that I can appreciate them when they do other work too. As well as what I said in my previous posts as to how the actors themselve might feel about being anonymous.

I can only assume that you and people who have the same difficulty that you do can never go to see a play or a film with an actor you've seen before as you can't separate knowing what somebody looks like in real life (or another role) from that in which you are seeing them now. I understand that this is a bit of a handicap for enjoying dramatic productions of all types. But I do to be honest get rather fed up with the hysterical fuss made about "cast photos" on these boards by a small number of posters. I would be quite happy if your wish could be granted but it seems that it won't be so perhaps at some point that could just be accepted.

Only for TA do I have a mental image of a large body of people, formed over decades.

It's not the same as seeing Anthony Sher playing a new part. I do not have a mental image of that character.

    Could so won't.

seeing the photo of the actress (without wanting to) doesn't help either

I think you're right about Mandisa living next door to Kate and Lucas.  Yes, Phoebe came back after her trip with Kate (when she showed everyone her 4 million photos) and went on about how she had, in the two weeks she was there, met a girl who lived next door to Kate and Lucas, called Mandisa, who was her Best Friend, and who wanted Phoebe to go and stay in South Africa.

Also, what's all this nonsense about, "We've got the house until the end of the month?"

Kate bought the house with the money Peggy gave to each of Jenny's children

"14th September 2003 Brian has had an email from Kate and is surprised to see a mention of her and Lucas buying a house "using Gran's money"; he is even more surprised to find that Jennifer knows all about the money"

Was this the house in Jo'burg? Or was she still in Cape Town then? I really can't remember.
