Why are x % of TA listeners against it? One of its functions is to teach us more about the characters and (sometimes!) cross-over SLs. TA is enhanced if one knows if e.g. why Amy may have behaved in a certain way.
Also, TA only-ers ask questions which we're not allowed to answer.
AMEX!!! exxers
I am a regular listener now
Ambridge Extra is much better supported now, synopses and listen again
The writers and actors seem much more relaxed in this single issue style
I do hope the execs handle the inevitable impact of Kate et al on the folks back home
There is a certain amount of cross posting, and I will not consider it prohibited

Good!
I would like to listen to it (listened to the last series) but my fourth digital radio is now kapput and I refuse to waste money on another one. The computer is in the living room with the TV etc so I don't really get the opportunity to listen to things on the pc unless everyone's out. I did buy some wireless headphones so that I could listen/watch stuff on it, but me and technology don't seem to mix too well, and I never really got them working properly, at least not without a lot of white noise/feedback. I did hear the epi where Pheebs smashed up Kate's car, but other than that, I'm relying on JPBS' excellent epi synopsis, for which I am very grateful.

I gave the first series five minutes and hated it. Tried the second one and enjoyed it more. Wasn't sure about this SA storyline to begin with but now we can see that Kate is still the madam she always was I am loving it. Still think the crossover problems have yet to be dealt with properly.

Easy.
Ignore the deniers.
For anyone who does not start feeling that AmEx is evil the crossover is handled perfectly well.

A lot of DTA listeners are a bit stuck in their ways. They probably still want continuity announcers to wear dinner jackets.

I'd settle for them speaking something vaguely like RP, with English stressing of words.

Wot, no con-TROV-ersy about TA & AmEx? exxers
Exxers - a lot of them are against AmEx on principle. I'm not sure what that principle is, or indeed how anyone's life can be so full they cannot squeeze in an extra 30 minutes radio listening per week (listen in the bath, while doing the dishes, travelling to and from work, walking the dog etc).
You don't even need a PC - just an IPod. Not sure if you can download to a mobile phone. We're living in an age where you can listen to things at a time that suits you, not just when broadcast. I almost never listen 'live'.
AmEx has come into its own.
With this series especially it's pretty nonsensical to keep up the Berlin Wall on ML between the two shows.

I can see that it's not necessarily convenient for some people to listen to Amex. IMO, I think the issue with Amex started because it seemed rather silly to create a separate show, on a separate station, at a separate time, about the characters/places that are already featured in the Archers and have been for decades. And then to put that new show on a station that not everyone can listen to as easily was an odd choice, too. It seems to me more like a decision to try to force people to listen to that other station, because there are hordes of listeners who would do so in order to get ALL the details about the characters they're already following in the Archers. And since not everyone can easily listen to it, people were frustrated that they were forced to miss out on Ambridge news because ´óÏó´«Ã½ decided to use the show to promote a different station.
I love the episodes, but I think launching it as they did as a new show on a new station was pointless, and just caused hard feelings.

Yes you can certainly get it on a Blackberry so I'd imagine you can get it on most smart phones. I either download the podcast to my Blackberry or if I remember and happen to have a good enough Wifi signal when it's on I just listen live, again on the Blackberry. Never had any trouble with buffering. I can't get a good digital signal on my radio but it really is very easy with the phone.
Mieteka - you have summed up my thoughts for me. I used to enjoy the chat in 'the other place' but now feel a bit intimidated about expressing my pro-AmEx views or indeed any of my views. The stern warnings on the Board about daring to show cast photos (I like them) or mention anything that goes on in AmEx seem to me to be be totally unrealistic. I thought AmEx was meant to complement The Archers so I don't see the point of pretending that AmEx doesn't exist.
Thank you, JPBS, for the synopses as I don't always hear the prog (this is a bit of an issue as not everyone is comfortable with all the forms of accessing the broadcast).
JPBS, with a few others, is the voice of common sense on the main discussion board as far as I am concerned.

Agree with all this, thoroughly good stuff, we haven't been so entertained since the Brian-Siobhan affair
Cheers nesta
I gave up the main board a long time ago, and am delighted to find this board is occupied by people who seem to enjoy listening to the program. No program is perfect and there is nothing wrong with criticism, but the main board was dominated by people who seem to hate TA and everything about it.

To be fair, TA has been a bit pants of late. However I am enjoying the Horrobins storyline now & the Ladies of the family are playing a blinder- terrific acting & a character- driven plot
I'm always ready with criticism so think its only fair to praise the good, stuff
Cheers nesta
And if umwant the good stuff, treat yourself to Amex - highly recommended
Oh, just realized I'm on Amex board haha!
Cheers nesta ( what do I know...)
That's my impression too, Killary.

Yep, I agree totally. Haven't read up-thread (yet).
Times *do* change ergo so must TA - although I'm very much a newbee.
Nothing's "perfect" but AmEx gives me so much more insight. I'm not annoyed, per se, with people who say "I won't AmEx but why's Amy...?blah".
It just seems more sensible to go deeeeeeeeeply in to the whole TA! exxers
P.S. I agree with you about not being "allowed" to speak of cross-overs. Very often I forget whether I found out something in TA or in AmEx.!

Exactly, Killary. I barely started before I left there and went to TB which I find much more congenial.
Views other than criticism and unpleasantness are ignored or put down pretty quick in DTA or a thread that's intended as positive is soon taken over unless you fight really hard. This is of course denied by the regular posters there, yet there seem to be quite a few elsewhere who feel as we do.
I listened to a bit of the first AmEx and was singularly unimpressed as it was about peripheral and new characters who seemed irrelevant.
I'm listening to to current one and really enjoying it.
So may I join the select company here, please?
The more, the merrier! Welcome to the little band who actually enjoy the show and are quite happy to say so.
AmEx took a while to grow on me, but I think it's really come of age with this series. It does help that it is concentrating on characters we already know, and that it is not aimed towards the younger end of the listening spectrum.
I do miss the lovely Sonny, who used to post regularly on DTA, until there was some unpleasantness. Hope he is okay.

For he today that hears AmEx with me
Shall be my brother; be he ne'er so vile,
This day shall gentle his condition.
And gentlemen in Ambridge now abed
Shall think themselves accursed they were not here,
And hold their manhoods cheap whiles any speaks

OI, I am seriously impressed but wholly unsurprised - actually I was so put-off Shakespeare by having to learn a play of his a term by rote from age ten that I almost prefer AmEx (exageration I hope).
What a clever "take".
Would prefer to be your sister/daughter/female friend/girl-friend if not spoken for - not your brother. I don't feel/look/behave in ways which are masculine. As I've mentioned before, I could never be your OH. I'd be dead by now, as would you. You "old" rascal. exxers

In a modern interpretation I'm sure "brother" would encompass "sister".

LW, I only listen to AmEx on my iPod. It's very easy to subscribe to and automagically recieve every new episode. In fact if I hadn't had the subscription I'd never even have known it had started again as it wasn't advertised on R4 (and no-one ever answered my query as to why this was...)

It is a great pity that the three original words
man
woman
wapman
Have eroded to two by loss of wap.
Let us restore mention of our weapons.

Re. that Dame: thought so. Awful thing happened to friend the other day: he turned on his car radio @ 10.15 a.m.. I sometimes fantasise about getting on "her" programme and digressing from the script e.g. saying "women belong in the kitchen, barefoot and pregnant" before CCB can pull my comment. A business-woman did once and told JM that she enjoyed the soxist banter in the City.
Conversation with woman @ ISP call centre: "Is your partner...?"
Me: "I haven't got one; he's my husband".
Woman: "I'll have to speak to your partner".
And so on ad nauseam.
Can't cope with wives who call themselves spouses so as not to offend the tender left-wing sensibilities of those who choose not to marry.
Finally, female to H: "I can open the door myself". I like doors being opened for me and I heart wolf-whistles; they make my day. e
While I'm at it, imagine the outcry if a bunch of white males had 45 minutes to bang on about their discomfort at having black female MPs. Of course that would be wholly wrong but the point is that there is no balance while JM sits on her throne with that holier-than wronged tone. I'm going to get a lot of posts against this but it's good to have a stir occasionally.

Exxers you do realise that the weapon in question is rather blunt; only about ten inches long, and fixed in location?

Where would we gals be without them - (modz, you seem to take things to heart too much - no need to be small about matters.) But you need spears too, you know! "They don't like it up 'em..." OI'd go on but modz have genuine SOH failures.
