he would spend that eight or nine hundred quid he can suddenly afford on another return ticket so he sees her again before she graduates from university.
But no he has to make the grand gesture and show off which will surely backfire. .
And for the record I don't think she is a brat, I think she sounds like a normal nice enough eleven year old who won't have the wool pulled over her eyes. And she is being far nicer to Kenton than he probably deserves.

Agreed, although I felt she'd interited her mother's tactlessness! But maybe it's just her age and she'll learn that some things are best left unsaid, even if they are patently true.

Maybe though I found generally I found Antipodeans tended to be a little more direct and straightforward than Brits.
I wonder who has nearly a grand lying about doing not much they can splash out (boom boom) on an extravagance?
Jolene must be doing quite well out of a pub, which was on the bones of it's (_x_) last year and almost closing!

Didn't Kenton put it on his card?
Anyway he *should* be able to afford it. He's on a salary, no rent or other household outgoins (although I assume he does make some contibution towards his food and cocktails. And part of the cost of the trip was financed by the Bank of Mum.
He did put it on his credit card, but asked Jolene for it first

But the point is wouldn't it be better to see your dad more often than to have him spend silly money once a decade? Especially when it is more about massaging Kenton's ego than anything.. anyway must catch up on today's episode.
Jolene was saying how much it was all costing, though, even with Jill helping (and presumably free accommodation for quite a lot of the trip). Kenton is mad to spend that much on trying to woo Meriel, especially as I have my doubts about his still being in a fit condition to sial a boat for a week, adn cater for the trip. Won't they al be tearing each other to pieces in such close proximity after so long not seeing each other?
I heard Jolene mention Kenton's 4 x 4 as well. How does he afford one of those, unless it's an old banger with non existent suspension - no, hang on that's Jolene.......

Snork... bit cruel Auntie M but soooo funny.... Kenton can probably afford it (though he has it a while) because he has a bit of a history of ligging off women who have OHAC, jobs that mean they are self sufficient, Of all the things that Kathy said about Kenton's departure there was no mention of impact on household finances which rather suggests Kenton wasn't really pulling his weight, My guess is Kenton has only had to run his car and pay for food and a share of bills for years. Even if he has paid half bills he has had no mortgage or rent which is the major expenditure for most households.. Suppose he probably has paid some maintenance for Meriel but still ..most aduld men would have to be completely self supporting even if they weren't supporting anyone else.

God I really can't cope with 'direct and straightforward'.
I offer this as proof of my inate Britishness
