I remember that there was talk about giving people from different time zones some method of sending posts while the boards are closed.
Will that come true?
Or do all of us who are UK-time zone-challenged have to move to Europe, where there's only one hour offset?
The current offset for me is 8/9 hours, depending on whether one is on Daylight Saving Time or those wonderful times where one can squander the living daylights out of time... I am rambling, sorry...
No, really, what's this with taking away the reply button in the middle of the afternoon, as I saw it on the "practice board" yesterday? (After midnight UK time?) Will this continue?
as far as I'm aware it's now a 24/7 board. Whether that's true or not we'll have to wait and see.
So what I saw yesterday was indeed not the final layout as we have it today?
Goody! I'll test it this afternoon.

Ah, happy bird, who can fly with the wind,
Leaving all anguish of absence behind;
Like thee could I fly,
Leaving others to sigh,
The lover I sigh for how soon would I find.
Just adding a bit of culture.

if you click on "Archers messageboards" above it gives opening times, they look the same as the old ones. Sorry .

Hello, SoN
I understood that when Keri said there would be posting "24/7" he meant it would be like it is at the moment: boards closed but "reply" button still there and messages queued. But others seemed to think that the boards were going to stay open all night.`

Yes Eilis,perhaps if the 24/7 thing doesn't get sorted,it'll just teach me not to ramble so much.Although we don't get a latest messages facility do we?
I haven't even had a good look round yet.Just wanted to make sure I was in!Hope you're well.

I thought the same as you Eilis, we'll be able to stack posts overnight.
I need it to shutdown at midnight - otherwise I would stay up far too late ; )

I really haven't got the hang of this copying lark yet - where's my box around my quote from Eilis's post? Will have to go practice at this...

Did you cut and paste it or use the button on the reply page, Hebe? If you did the latter I can't understand why it wouldn't happen.

Hello Hebe, Eilis, Basia or whoever I'm replying to. (Not being rude ,just confused).
I think you are probably right re the 24 hour thing. I've had quite a bit of "time off" lately so have missed some of Mr K's announcements. Makes sense.

Yes I used the button but then I deleted SoN's message to try and keep it all within reasonable limits.
Lets see what's happened with this one...

Hi Everyone!
The midnight hour approaches here in the UK, so we'll soon know how it works/if it works.

Not only is it not 24/7 (at least not yet anyway) but you cannot submit posts out of hours as I used to do. Another area of functionality that has been lost. as far as I'm aware it's now a 24/7 board. Whether that's true or not we'll have to wait and see.Ìý

Hello, Graeme
Keri just negotiated the day before yesterday so perhaps somebody just forgot to press the right button. Let's hope we'll have an explanation today sometime.
Eilis
And here's another "not only".
Not only can you not queue them, but the cut-off mechanism is outstandingly graceless as well.
Last night I was in the middle of editing my reply when midnight rolled over. When I pressed the button to post the message, it crashed through into a very ugly error screen and lost all the changes.
This is extremely bad programming, by any standards. I'm astonished it got through its User Acceptance stage.
The program on the server that accepts the forms and inserts their text into the messagebase should remain available to be used *after* midnight. If we simply must have a kerfew, then all they need do is code a flag in the program that generates the topic list view, and then a statement something like
if (!kerfew_flag) {
display_post_button();
}
Then, when midnight comes, set the flag, et voila, no more reply buttons, but it does allow replies "in progress" still to be received and processed.
Not only is it not 24/7 (at least not yet anyway) but you cannot submit posts out of hours as I used to do. Another area of functionality that has been lost.

I just can't believe it.
Will say no more for now - one should not write comments when ragingly angry.
Iko-Chan, Keri just posted in another thread asking about whether the reply buttons had been there -- he said he'd been told they would be. I'm sure this will get sorted out. Wish I could be so optimistic about time order!
