Who sat in the bay in the Barbara White Room, with Jane to her left and Bearhug to her right?
(I took two pics of that group, from different angles, and found that she's obscured in both of them!)
An album in the lockin is in progress!
It was Hebe, W-L

Thank you, EllKaye! Yes, I recognise the way she parts her hair, now.
ooh, just seen the lovely photos (well all lovely apart from the one of me looking for some reason rather apprehensive of the cup of herbal tea which Squigs so kindly made for me)- is this the complete set, or are we to expect more?

Heh heh heh, Stephen, haven't you yet felt the after-effects of that witchy brew? Great to meet you yesterday! Your affectionate Aunt $quigs
i hasten to add that my apparent apprehension was completely misguided and i have suffered no ill-effects as a result of my raspberry & tea. (I'm assuming that the drowsiness, the ghostly apparitions and the sensation of turning into a rabbit in the middle of the night were all completely unrelated....)
Lovely to meet you yesterday! I am now attmepting to abandon ML in favour of Ruskin and Arnold... not an easy task...
stephen
I didn't take a camera yesterday, only my mobile phone, so I took a couple of photos, but they are nothing like as good as Word Lover's! Still, as you will see, I managed to post the better one in the Lockin so am pleased with my achievement!
The other photos are great and will be a lovely reminder! Thanks, WL

My album of 21 pictures of the Cambridge meet is now in the Lockin.
Thank you W-L and Shezzie for the photographs I have saved them. I had a lovely day.
Many thanks for sharing the pics. Isn't it odd how you can have a mental picture of somebody only to see that they are quite different?
Looking forward even more to the Cardiff mini-meet. Gwen
Thank-you, Word-Lover, did nobody 'snap' you?

replying to Message 12, RosieT
What an omission, Rosie! I feel rather guilty, being normally rather brighter about remembering to offer to photograph the photographer at parties, weddings etc. etc.
Apologies, W-L. You are very sharp btw, calling attention to my tiny squirrel brooch as well as the large squirrel on my T-shirt in The Lockin photos! $qxx

Have just been looking at the photos in the Lockin, WL ~ that was very quick work! Thanks for doing this for us.
BTW I caught the 4.58pm train yesterday & arrived at my front door at about 7.30pm. I would have stayed longer ~ but had to admit defeat due to that blooming heavy bag! But have "learnt my lesson" in that respect ~ and will make a point of travelling LIGHT in future!
Cheers, Misty
What is the link to the lock in? the usual google doesn't seem to work anymore.

lovely to meet you yesterday misty! I'd seen photos of you in the Lockin so did recognise you, and you were just as lovely as i thought you would be from your posts! i'm still dazzled by the distance that people travelled to be here-puts my 10 minute's walk to shame really...

Apparently not.
It was such a large meet that I didn't have time to have a real good chin-wag with more than a few of us. I spent part of the time taking snaps, of course, and might have taken more except that I had misunderstood: I thought we might be back in the Barbara White Room until the evening. As it was, Annie was there waiting to lock up while I hurriedly packed, after which there were some of you I never saw again. It turns out that I never snapped Essex Girl, Fenland Yomper, Happy Viking, her OH Andrew or Horatianelsonsdottir. Marms requested that I not put my snaps of her into the lockin. (Imagines the scene at Drizzle Towers: "Just off to the shop to buy a remoska. I'll be straight back.")

It's OK Marms, I'll stand bail for you. LilacC has now seen my Remoska and has lived to tell the tale! And why should you not come to Cambridge to buy one? $qxx
I've just found out that Gaye Gables has moved to the antipodes. What I want to know is, is there a Lakeland there?
Eilis
well i, naturally, was thrilled to see what you look like stephen!

Essex Girl and Horatia weren't there, WL, so it would have been difficult to snap them!
I'm sorry about the misunderstanding about the room - I had in fact intended to stay at the College for longer if people wanted to hang around and chat, but once it became clear that everybody was keen to have a look round town, it seemed more sensible to meet at a point that was nearer to the bus and railway stations.

Not irene, but can I have a glass too please? Just watching a golden sunset from my window, so it's definitely over the yardarm.
annie
hello eilis! yes please, i think the suns over the yardarm now, isnt it?
Glasses of wine coming up for Annie and irene!
Hey, you two! Did you know Mrs GG had decamped to the Antipodes?
Eilis
Er, sorry Gaye if you're reading this, that should have been Ms, I know.
Here, there's a glass for you whenever it's the right time!
Eilis
has she? cor. i knew she moved and i did enquire as to whether she was still in surrey. her reply was somewhat understated i now realise. something like ' no a bit further'. i should say so!! i seem to remember i said to be careful as there be dragons further afield than surrey. well, nearly right if its australia, with its unique creatures!
The Reverend Bonkers let the cat out of the bag today, irene. So there you are, she and O/H decided on a permanent move.
Eilis
As for staying on later, I would have loved to, and didn't realise there was a bigger crowd having tea and nattering elsewhere till later on - but I was also a bit concerned about the drive home, and I hate driving in the dark.
So my conversations were relatively short too, so I will just have to wait and look forward to another opportunity to continue where we left off!

Cheers! (slurp). Lucky her - I've been to Oz twice and love it there. Seriously considered moving there myself at one point, but I'd never get enough points - their immigration criteria are a bit ageist, IMO.

Ciaran has thought about it too. They're all heading to there and New Zealand for an extended holiday.
Do you like my snazzy time stamp which jont did?

Me too, Scheherazade & Annie, although I had to find O/H in the Anchor, and do a bit of shopping, if I had known there was another venue, if only for an hour, we would have come along and got a later bus.
Cannot wait for the next maxi meet.

Sorry you missed this, Ell Kaye and Scheherezade, I had meant to suggest it earlier, and only remembered when the last group were about to leave Newnham - I'll be better organised next time, promise!
</quote>I'll be better organised next time, promise!

Ooooh! so ther WILL BE A NEXT TIME! Yayyyyy!
I had a most splendid time, it was really nice meeting everyone and seeing whether they fitted the pictures in my head! It was great to see Newnham, too, as my grandmother was a student there in the 1920s (and despite having spent 3 years in Cambridge, I realised I'd never been there before!)
Had a very nice time just pottering round, only bought 3 books, which was *very* restrained. Was rather surprised to see children in Ann Summers (I went there to buy my fishnet stockings, which M&S didn't have, so now I'm all ready to play noughts and crosses - cross-threading/cross-boarding.) I walked miles, seeing all the houses and shops and pubs and so on that used to be so much part of my life. Was amused to see the lamppost in the middle of Parker's Piece still has "Reality Checkpoint" grafittied on it, as it did in my day. I was expecting some changes, but what struck me was how many things *hadn't* changed.
And you can still get spicy spuds from Fagito's. How come chippies in the rest of the country don't do spicy spuds? They're so much nicer than chips.
This morning, I saw a black squirrel round the by the back gate to what is now, according to the big signs out the front, Anglia Ruskin University. (It went through about 90 name changes in the 3 years I was there, so I'm glad to see it's not made its mind up yet.)
Only ever heard of black squirrels for the first time ever on Thursday, and it sat there by the Sinclair building for a little while for me to have a good look.
But obviously, the highlight of the whole weekend was going into Lakeland and seeing a (rather dusty) Remoska in the company of other MLers.

Yes, it was repainted recently, but the graffiti came back almost immediately - and on a foggy evening, you can see exactly why it's called that!

My non-MB friend who was at the meet also saw this for the first time on her way home - it was the first she'd heard about it and she'd been working there until earlier this year!

It's such a shame that I couldn't decide which model to get and will simply HAVE to come back to Cambridge another time to try and decide!
