(I've logged in again - hopefully it wil work this time).

I see it is the last ever "Monarch of the Glen" after about 6 or 7 series.

I have never ever seen it. Have I been missing much?

Personally, I don't think you've missed anything. It's typical Sunday evening TV- bland, comforting and always there. I'm watching the programme about the 1948 London Olympics - fascinating.

The first series was fabulous, the second was a bit "iffy", and the rest was so bland as to be unwatchable imho. I just caught the second half of the last episode, and was cheered up a little to see Richard Briers there; it was when they blew him up that the rot set in. smiley - smiley

The best thing about it was that it enabled French and Saunders to do a very funny skit on their Christmas show a couple of years ago.

On the whole not worth watching, we thought, because it manages to be so far-fetched it is silly *and* quite boring at the same time.

It was getting a bit soppy, and last week I didn't bother to watch it all, but this week my paper told me it would be a real tear-jerker, and being a sentimental old fool I watched it, and it certainly was!

Probably the last one ever. I used to enjoy it so much, but it did fizzle out recently.

Like Peet, I would say that the first series was very funny (thanks mainly to the interaction between Richard Briers, Susan Hampshire and Julian Fellowes), the second series funny and the rot did set in once Richard Briers' character died in series three. After that it slid faster and faster down the road of tv soaps with improbable plots & characters leaving to be replaced with others to such an extent that it raised nary a smile. I bought the series on dvd, and stopped at series 4 or 5; it got so bad that it was a question of strong will to continue watching.

It bears, however, no resemblance to the original series of novels by Compton MacKenzie - if you haven't read those, do so; they are authentically funny.
