Tchaikovsky's Pathetique Symphony?
An interesting choice of title and I have to wonder what was behind it, after writing the manuscript did he hold it at arms length dum de dum de dum a few bars to himself and think `That's pathetic that, hey wait a minute I might just get away with it!'

Great thought Andrew.
And I guess Holst, when he got up next morning and looked at what he'd composed the night before thought, "Sheeze - what planet are you on?"
And when Elgar had finished the Enigma Variations he thought 'How strange! Well, at least it's different'

Strauss gets up from the piano and scrunches his latest work into a ball as he calls out to the maid, "Hey Trish, you can chuck this polka in the trash - no, wait up..........."

`Oi Viv ( as he was known to his friends ) it's taken you *all* *year* and you still haven't got a name for that last piece.'
Cry from upstairs...
`That's it !'

I thought Vivaldi was incredibly quick at writing music, so I guess this explanation is musicologically unsound, 007. Everyone knows that it got it's name because someone yelled from downstairs "We're having pizza delivered, Antonio! What flavour d'you want?"

Or even "got its name" without the redundant apostrophe. Sigh. What's wrong wimme today? Lynne Truss would be very sniffy.

Don't worry under those circs it could have been called The Hawaiian and he'd have had to introduce ukulele into it.

And was that my-newt or min-it Mags? Neither would have been very polite or encouraging.
Who knows, Pilly? Perhaps both. He did switch his attentions to her daughter after all!

And Rossini was asking his son William to tell Mrs Rossini that hed left his horse on the range.
But you know kids they never listen and he was out the door before poor old Gioacchino got his sentence finished.
Sadly I missed them by one day as they were part of the opening of the magnificent de la Warr Pavilion in Bexhill on Sea a fortnight ago. Everyone said how good they'd been.

Hi HB, bearing in mind that on other ´óÏó´«Ã½ boards you describe the posters in TB as both 'sycophantic' and 'painfully polite' - is there a particular reason you still post here?
