I know this has been discussed in other threads but I think one of them is long enough and the other is addressing the serious issue of domestic violence on which I don't want to intrude with my musings. It's just this business of the Mitchell brothers who've both managed in the past day or two [from what I've heard on the radio] to have been assaulted by their partners. I also got a glimpse of Max Clifford being very po-faced about it on ITV this morning. From what I hear Wade and Kemp are now taking the "a little thing got out of hand, no harm done, mountain out of molehill" route.
Am I right in thinking the Mitchells arrived back in EastEnders this week? Is there a connection?

Perish the thought Eilis!
Shove over in the cynics' corner, Eilis, and make room for me. Tea and hot buttered crumpets?
Oh lovely, Marigold!

I heard the broadcast as wel Eilis and at the end the reporter was saying that by the weekend the neighbours (who I think reported the Wadw/Kemp row) will have been offered huge sums for their story.
That made me think. If I lived next door to people who I do not know (or know and dislike) would I turn down several £000 for 'my' story? I wouldn't do it for a hundred or so but ...£25,000? Would you be tempted?
I'm not talking about muscling in on genuine tragedies, or breaking secrets, but it strikes me that in this case further publicity might just be welcomed by the protagonists.

Eilis,
You're cynical.
Is that what you had in mind?
One of the theories I heard was that the second piece of 'violence' against whoever plays Phil Mitchell was engineered so that The Sun would have a story to draw attention from the Ross/Wade headlines

That's too cynical even for me, SeaN!

Hmm, nice try Loot but I don't think James Blunt would have got very far with that one.

Eilis, even though I raised this subject myself elsewhere, there are all sorts of uncomfortable angles to the Kemp/McFadden(sp?) story.
One, as you say, is that some/all of it relates directly to current EE storylines and recent EE poor viewing figures, and Joe Public is just being reeled in again. Another is the jollification of domestic violence.

and apparently Ms Wae has been running a campaign in the Sun against domestic violence.
