Mary Chapin Carpenter - Stones In The Road.
I'm listening to my assistant eat an egg sandwich and gulp a drink - in a most un-lady-like manner.
radio 4
We don't listen to anything in the office (unless o/h comes in when she applies Radio 4).
Invicta Radio - inflicted on me by my department from the radio outside my office.

The washing machine of the people upstairs.
Pilly, be greatful it does not leak. I vividly remember the day my downstars neighbour nocked to tell me...
Yeh, that was a bad day.
My tinitus.
Also, to be more cheerful, ´óÏó´«Ã½ teach yourself Portuguese on the computer, as I'm off to Madeira on Monday! 22 degrees and sunny!
Ate logo.
The Arctic Monkeys. Not jumping on a bandwagon like I usually do, I saw them eight months ago in The Forum, have been promoting them for yonks and they have since claimed the number one spot in the singles chart, all down to me (yeah right!). Really good band, great lyrics, Sheffield vibe at its best.

It *did* leak when they first moved in! Water came through my kitchen light fitting which was a bit scary.
However machine has stopped now, so I'm listening to A Doll's House - Marilyn Middleton (or Marilyn Middleton-Pollock as she was when she recorded it). Her voice has been described by someone other than me as 'a Brillo pad dipped in honey'. Yep, that's about right.

woke up one morning and paddled through the flat. Upstairs neighbour had a water leak in the pipe under his bath.
I got a new kitchen, new floors and new carpets out of it though.

But what happened to all the pet spiders?
I tend not to listen while MLing. Most recently on the hifi? "Casa" by Melenbaum2/Sakamoto. Sort of posh bossa: Jobim arranged for cello and piano, with gorgeous singing - but so discreet it HURTS. Ryuichi Sakamoto has got the "less is more" dictum DOWN - never use six notes when one will do. I quite like it, except when the singer sings in English. Ick. Wish she'd stick to Portuguese. The songs, it goes without saying, are amazing.
Funny about Portuguese cropping up twice in this fred. I'm thinking of learning in order that I can understand bossa better. (Yup, I know that sounds like a candidate for "Pseuds' Corner" - but that's the kind of guy I am . . .)

Hi, Am. I was considering learning Swedish so that I could not only understand Sofia Karlsson but make the same sounds as she does.
Think the utter beauty of - for example - Audrey Hepburn transmuted into sound.

Wot no *fado* yet ?
Not that I can claim to be listening. Santana and Glass' incidental music to 'The Secret Agent' - cello and cor anglais, oh so plangent. Gcse module on minimalists in train. All useful suggestions welcomed. petal.
Right now, the Newcastle-Birmingham match on Radio Newcastle.
Prior to that, several CDs on random: Dandy Warhols, Sleeper, Green Day, Kaiser Chiefs & Portishead.
Hi DD
That does sound pretty wonderful! At a sort of tangent, but then again not . . .
One of my favourite CDs of recent years is Lloyd Cole's "Music in a foreign language" - a spectacular return to form of one of my heroes. The title track contains the wonderful lines:
"I heard a voice, resonant, born of Scandinavian descent - I didn't understand . . ."
I've often wondered who he was talking about. Never heard (or, truth to tell, heard of) Sofia Karlsson but I guess it's time to remedy that!
Have a good weekend

My minimalist works of choice are "Drumming" and "Six Pianos" by Steve Reich - the latter is particularly gorgeous. Actually anything by Steve Reich is pretty splendid, though I think he outgrew the "minimalist" tag pretty quickly.

Thanks for the Steve Reich steer Am. Also a Lloyd Cole fan in youth - his voice had a real edge and depth and more intelligent 3 min pop lyrics than most. Prefab Sprout's 'Couldn't Bear to Be Special' sticks in the same part of the brain as 'perfect Skin'. Sprout bob up now and again. pj

I'm LA'ing to Doctor Who on ´óÏó´«Ã½7.
I am listening to the dehumidifier down here, and the delightful, tuneless humming from upstairs, and very pleasant it is too. There are still odd squashes and bangs outside, and a few doors banging, some footsteps, and the odd creak (possibly my bones).
