I can't remember when I last started a thread, but here goes!
I'll start with my attempt at lunar photography tonight. No photoshopping, 24x optical zoom, ISO400, f8, 200th sec.
Syd
Beautiful! Wet and windy here, so no chance to see the real thing.
Syd, ?
It has reached 2000 posts so we start a new one.

Bookmarking with my Moon photos. All 3 of them from around 200 which I think are the best. :O)))))))))))
1st one is a bit too bright I think?
2nd one I like the craters but maybe a bit dark?
3rd one a mixture of both but I *love* it!
I love them all. I managed to take a real moon landing. :O)

Ohhhh lovely Auntie C.
Bookmarking with a picture for the cat servants who can't get the 25 year old malts because the cats have cornered the market...
XTD
Out again this morning, lovely and sunny and for once not too cold.

Just a quick post to any lurkers to say come on in and join us - the more the merrier :- ) If you've got some piccies great, but even if not you're welcome to join in teh chit-chat.
I just dug this one out to post in a thread on 'My first digital camera' on another MB. The photo made me larff: the shutter lag was so long (about 1.5 secs I think 8-/ ) that I had to press the shutter when the waves were still some way from the quay. It also had a screen that was impossible to see in the Cretan sunshine (no sympathy for people who complain about the bright screens of today :- ) )

Only 30 F(A)B. Just not enough!
Thanks, I'm chuffed with my The Moon shots.
Though the first 6 of my latest uploads are some of my favourites.

I thought I'd show a springlike picture from my walk on Saturday
Then a view from a little-known nature reserve in the Black Country - Mouse sweet, Quarry Bank. Love the name. I went there yesterday for the first time.

Lovely shots. I really like the one of the wet nosed one, even if she did try to eat my cheese cob!!!
I thought you might like this, it is a bit too dark really.
Every one....
I really enjoyed the moon shots, especially as I didn't take any..
Well done.

Oh lovely. I love pheasants in every way. Beautiful birds, quirky way of yelling. and they taste good too on occasion. I'm perfectly happy to admire them academically though.
My goose isn't as good as your pheasant but he was quite cute yesterday (walking along the canal)

Love the goose.
Carrying on the (edible) bird theme.....
I've been having another play with macro on some spring buds, and am struggling a bit to be honest.
This one isn't bad...
but if I try to get closer I just can't seem to get it to focus on what I want it to.
This one is slightly better.

Syd,
Please don't think me rude. I struggled with using macros.
I found the secret is to get right on top of whatever you are trying to capture. The focal length, as you well know, is very small ie mm's. would getting in much closer work?
I was probably a couple of cm's away from this.
I hope this helps a little.

I meant depth of field, not focal length...

Love the various edible bird photos (edible birds, that is, not edible photos).
Syd,
I just posted some suggestions on the Techy(ish) photo thread:
(I didn't want to discourage people from posting their snaps here - that's what this thread is for)
Syd, coincidentally I took these today in an idle moment - not for here but just out of curiosity.
It's with the pocket camera that FAB recommended and she and Auntie also have.
I can't get results with my "better" cameras on Macro mode.
Trainer lace
Leaf
Spider web
My chin - looks horrid - you can't even pinch my stubble!
Camera jammed in eye - nearly - check the reflections.
I won't post the nostril shot!

Those are great, Scoobs.
TFT, apologies. I meant to say that what I've psoted at greater length on the Techy(ish) thread is a kind of expansion of what you said here.
Syd, Your camera should focus to 10cm on macro/normal and 1 cm on super-macro. But that's on the wide end of the zoom. 10 cm is quite a lot, so if you want to do anything really macroish, you need super-macro and get in close (don't zoom).
Many thanks for all your comments everyone. I have a lot to learn and will post my results - or possibly not. ; ) ->
Syd
Here you all are! Thought you get away from me eh? No such luck, my lovelies!
Holiday snaps:
I haven't named them all 'cos I got bored but they're all self explanatory. (I hope).
Syd - on the other hand you have posted some blinders!

Great to see you back. I loved the Mousehole panorama and the head-scratching gull.
Hope to see you here more (spring's here!)

Syd,
I've given you some hints on the Techy Thread, if you haven't seen it. Go for the super macro setting.
Rwth - it would be even sadder if there were a pair of charred trainers with it.
Excellent pictures there, Bolly.
I'd like to add the 'Moonrise with St Michaels Mount in the corner' to the Mousehole panorama - oh and Daisy's self portraits...

Count Bollynix I just had to comment. I don't usually look for too long but I was captivated watching your collection of stunning pictures going by. The montage tells a story but more than that I'm inspired to take the camera out. Now the key question. How do you do it?
Thank you : )
Those are fab and I LOVE DAISY!

Here are the last 3 of my macro mania set. Have decided to stop for awhile before I go completely round the bend. I'll still be taking macro shots and no doubt will eventually start taking more photos of the set, but not for awhile.
150 macros isn't bad though. :O)

CHP
They are good. Macro lenses drove me mad at first, they are difficult to use. Took this on holiday last year.
and I was out walking today and took my 'big' camera instead of the little one.
I waited ages for the light, but it didn't quite work out, but never mind....

I don't have a separate lens for macro. My Fuji finepix just has a very good Super Macro setting.
Love the grasshopper.
150 macros, CHP, that's some going! Fascinating, though.
I've passed on your regards to Daisy, TFT (great name; in honour of anyone we know?) She's a clever little dog....sometimes.
Thanks for your kind words F(A)B, Auntie and Scoobs. XTD, I'm a little disappointed with the barking one. It would have been a beauty if she wasn't disappearing out of the top of the photo! She was bouncing about so much, though, that I'm lucky I got what I did.
Countryfaux, I'm dead chuffed you liked them and that you've been inspired to get out snapping. I'm just one of those snappers who point and shoot. But being in West Cornwall, by the sea, well, you're bound to get a good one or two. A heck of a lot get deleted!
Oh, and PPG, thank you too. There is a boring amount of Daisy photos on my Photobucket site if you'd like to explore. Must be one of the most photographed dogs around. (She's driving me mad tonight, though. I've put the solar lights in the garden and - shock horror - they're all lit up and they just /have/ to be growled at.........constantly. Sigh).

Sorry Flying Toff, forgot to say thank you.
Bolly,
Taking 150 macros isn't that easy, especially as I really wanted to try something different most days. Didn't manage that, but it's been fun. Just want to to give myself a break.
Still CHP, lots of lovely France just waiting for you! I love your photos of France.
Evening folks.
Is that grasshopper grinning?
It's a great shot.
Stop apologising for that sky shot!!
You captured what was there. : )
Chicken - those shots are very "clean" now with the background you use.
KOKO everybody
Now:
Where are Gruney and Septic hiding out, eh?
