Thinking in terms of a lunch-time get-together in that rambling old pub on Market Square (name to follow!)
O/h and I will be visiting relatives in North Notts on a short flying visit from North Germany. Gave Lemon Sabotage our "window" and we decided the Friday would be a good day.
Do bookmark this thread if you're considering joining us.

If anyone is planning to come by train, early warning - the stations in the middle of an upgrade and has gone all weird. No facilities on the concourse (though you can getndout -as of last Saturday anyway).

I'm a maybe too. If I start from home, I can come, but if I'm out of town it's too far. It's cheaper by train, but takes a long time.
Ye Olde Trip to Jerusalem is the oldest pub isn't it? In a park iirc.I am not from the area.

I'm a maybe.
Thanks for starting the thread, jane.
Yes, I think the pub's called the Bell or the Old Bell (I've been there quite a few times, so I should know by now!)
Hope all the Maybes can make it.

I'd love to come! That'll be something nice to look forward to.
I can get to Nottingham easily enough ~ it's just finding my way to the actual venue which I might need a bit of help with.
But I won't worry about that just yet! Misty xx

If by some freak luck I'm home, I would love to come.
The lovely thing about the Trip is that there's outdoor seating if it's nice, whereas the Bell only has outdoor tables out front which is sort of like sitting in a shopping centre. But both, as many of you know, are lovely and pokey and have small private rooms which are bagable with a phone call. Ditto the Salutation - all three jostle for ye oldeste depending on which local historian you talk to.
There's also the Malt Cross round the corner from the Bell, which is lovely, a real Nottm rescue job.
Anyway, I hope the weather is lovely for you all, will keep my eyes on this thread in case I can make it.
Great to hear that Misty and Christina may be able to make it too! It'll be like the first Nottm meet we had a few years ago if they do.
Basia - thank you for the link. The Malt Cross looks a very interesting possibility if the meet Grows and Grows! Otherwise I'll be ringing to book a room at the Old Bell probably.
Do hope that "some freak of luck" turns up to whisk you away from NY to Nottm around the 5th. Would be good to meet you!

That's good news, Phil! O/h and I met you at a Birmingham Meet 2-3 years ago, didn't we?

Excellent news Phil; hope you can make it. (Likewise Misty, Christina, Basia and all the earlier Maybes.)
Bump for the new week.
Pencil the date in your diary and post a line here if you're interested.
More details, of course, much nearer the date, but the general idea is a central lunch-time meet, with some people wanting to look at sights, shop (Nottm has a good Lakeland store....[smileywotsit]) etc beforehand and/or afterwards.
jx
With the board closing down (sob) we won't be able to do definite numbers for the meet so I won't book anything.
Meeting place: The Old Bell. Outside if good weather, if not in one of the downstairs bar-rooms.
Time: 12 - 12.30 ish
Date: Friday 5th April
Definites so far are Lemon Sabotage, jane c and Mr jane c.
Look forward to seeing you!

Thanks for that jane.
Will be hot-footing it across to Peet's when the ´óÏó´«Ã½ matadors have slain The Bull (or possibly even sooner.)
I am already signed up so am hoping it proves to be easy to use.

Please put me down as a Definite! I live within easy travelling distance of Nottingham.
However ~ I'm not totally sure how to get from the train station to the Pub in question.
I can't help wishing that we were meeting at Ye Olde Trip to Jerusalem ~ I went there on a coach trip a coupla years ago, & there's an excellent museum very close by, which would be an added attraction.
But that's just a thought!
It's be lovely to meet up with friends old & new.

Misty,
You can get the tram from the station to Old Meerkat Square, then it is a short walk.
See owl for suggested train.
Phil
Good news, Misty - look forward to seeing you again!
Phil knows so much about trains, I'm sure he can let you know if one of us will be arriving pretty much near your own time of arrival. Then we can all take the tram together.
Phil - we will be coming in from Worksop. There's only one train per hour, which will make it easy for you to do some research!
Perhaps Lemon Sabotage will log in to give us her train connection.

Thanks Phil! I'll make sure I catch that 11.30 train. It takes about half an hour & is about 25 miles.
I still can't help wishing that we were meeting at the Olde Trip to Jerusalem as the almost adjacent museum is excellent (so is the pub!) ~ but maybe another time?
'Bye for now ~ Misty

Hello jane, Phil, Misty.
Glad you're coming Misty.
I'm afraid I'm not organised enough at the moment to know which train I'll be catching!
Misty, we will have to organise a future meet at the Trip to Jerusalem--it does sound interesting.
Hallo you three (not two!)
No reason we can't change the venue.
Have just googled to find location. From the map, the advantage of The Bell seems to be that it's on the tram route.
Getting to the Trip to Jerusalem looks as if it means walking from the station - not easy for all.
Or does anyone have any other information?
jx
PS If we were *really really* organised of course (unlikely on a Mustardland Meet I musard mitt) we could club together and get a taxi.
I apologise for missing out a letter. Here it is:

OK, I have a plan:
What about if we change the venue for meeting to Nottm. station?
Most of us seem to be coming by train anyway. I think there's a coffee-place there where we could congregate (and we can put our mustard-tin on the table for anyone coming who doesn't know us.)
Then once we've all arrived, we could get taxis to the Trip to Jerusalem.
Any takers?
PS Hope the Tate meet goes well for those who are going/already there.
Sounds ok to me, LemS
We need someone like Bracton to help us, though, as regards the meeting place.
I think she/he lives in Nottm and mentioned somewhere upthread that the station was being reconstructed at the moment.
In theory, I could come to this meet... But I would have to bring Puzzlerette and Puzzling too. Perhaps we could just call in briefly?

Posted by Lemon Sabotage (U9577550) on Saturday, 23rd February 2013
Oh yes, I'd completely forgotten about that.
I was thinking that the station would be the best place to get taxis from.
Yes puzzler, do try and come.
I'm sure we'll get the details sorted soon.

Sounds a good plan, Lemon.
My train (and Misty's) is due to arrive at 12 noon.
There are buffets on the platforms, but it would be best to go up to the main entrance where there is also a buffet and taxis just outside.
There is no buffet on the other footbridge half way down the station which leads to the trams.

Yes, as long as the station upgrade as mentioned by Bracton upthread doesn't scupper this plan.
Maybe it'll be sorted by April?

Reply to 36 and 37. We can NOT meet at the station - the main entrance and concourse is closed. ( you can still use the lift and get out that way but its a building site - the Bell is much more practical.
Ps im going to peets so i can answer questions there
5 April in my diary

Just read this - nope. Wont be finished till autumn at least. In fact for a few weeks over the summer the whole station will be closed - as in no trains! You couldnt make it up!

Oh, thanks for that Bracton.
In that case, I think it would be easier to stick with our original plan and stay at the Old Bell, and maybe plan a future meet for the Trip to Jerusalem.
But I will be happy with whatever most of you think best.

Having read through all the posts esp. from Bracton, I think you are right, Lemon. Up the steps half way along the platform, over to catch the tram to Old Meerkat Square. [Watch out for old square meerkats!]
Phil
Old Bell it is, what time? I promise not to hang around if the girls are getting bored/annoying!

Hi Puzzler,
This gives the original meet details, which I believe are still correct.
See you there!
Phil
Thanks Phil! See you there!
Bracton and Phil - thank you so much for the information.
Puzzler - welcome to the Nottm meet thingy. ML-sprogettes always welcome - or photos thereof (reminder to Christina)
And photos of dogs, of course.
(couldn't resist that, even if o/h is spluttering in an undignified way over my shoulder as I type)
OK, folks. Back to Plan A. The Old Bell somewhere between 12 and 12.30, outside/inside - we'll find each other - 5th April.
Look forward to seeing you all!
