I鈥檓 the Interactive Editor of Radio 4 and Radio 4 Extra and am in charge of the websites for both networks.
Today we鈥檝e announced that the Archers message board will be closing in two weeks at 12pm on Monday 25 February.
I鈥檝e explained the reasons behind the closure in this post on The Archers blog > >
If you have specific questions please post them as a comment on the blog and I鈥檒l answer you there.
We鈥檇 like to thank you for your contributions to the message board and hope you鈥檒l continue to enjoy visiting The Archers website.
Ah well - so long everybody-peeps.
: (
Quite a shock. Very disappointed. Really enjoyed these message boards.
It was bound to happen sometime.
Ah well, one minute the Pope resigns and the next.....
No reason to visit the website when the board is gone.
So long, and thanks for all the fish.
Bye, everyone.

Hmm the Pope resigns, Richard III is found and now this. It can't be a coincidence.
What a great way to start the week.
Now what?

Oh dear.
Can we meet anywhere else?
It's such a support as well as being fun, entertaining, educative.

So the search starts now for a decent mb with no avatars, no smileys and a reasonable standard of discussion. Hmmmm.

Snap Judith, and neither do I do Facebook or Twitter.
Peets?
Blogging is rubbish.
I think it's on its way out already.
Peets.
Now.

Can we meet anywhere else?聽
Peet's.
I hope he knows what's going to hit him...
Peets place is open for business as far as I know.
I'll also make an offer here. You can come over to my place, and I'll make an Archers bit for you, or I could even make you your own Archers message board. Or someone else could do it.
As far as I know, the FB group will remain open, and a lot of folks can be contacted via there, myself included.
The 大象传媒 ought to be ashamed of itself. This place is practically a national treasure, and over the years has offered a lot of different people many different things.

'Nigel's revenge' ???
Sayonara, amigos.
Presumably it's the cost of moderating the board which is a major factor.
I'm pretty gutted. I've loved it here.

I'm gutted to see this today.
This is such a wonderful place, with so many lovely people. I've been here nearly 10 years, and although I dont post too often, a day rarely goes by that I dont pop in to see what is going on.
Such sad news.

Where's your place smeesue?
The R3 people started up their own forum that looks and operates the same as the 大象传媒 one did, don't know the who or how tho.
The reasons are somewhat different than I would have expected. They appear to be because:
(a) there aren't too many other 大象传媒 boards left and
(b) lack of great interest
Instead of telling us that it was for our benefit in some way, or presented as an improvement in services.
What a shame. A sorry day in more ways than one.
It's always been risky letting people spout off to their hearts content day after day under the 大象传媒 publishing umbrella.
At one time it was deemed a risk worth taking in order to keep up with developments in modern media, but now that's gone off in a different direction and left this lot a bit of a sore thumb for Aunty.
I have a domain that I don't use, if Peet or someone techy would oblige it could be set up to function in the same way as this board does. I know Peet's place is a forum, but it's a bit difficult to find what you're interested in. The good thing about this layout is that it's very straightforward.
At the moment my domain isn't hosted, but I can set that up easily if or when required.
If I link to it, I'll get modded. Could someone who has the details please email them over? Or you can find me at Peets and email me from there, or from the FB group.
It's a bit more rough and tumble than here. But as I said, I can make an Archers bit, that's not a problem.
GUTTED.
See you in Peet's.

I've been on the lookout for a few years for boards that are similar to the 大象传媒s, with no luck.
There are private boards that I post on and which are fine, but with nothing really pointing to them new blood is thin on the ground. That is a big factor for me.
"The 大象传媒 ought to be ashamed of itself. This place is practically a national treasure, and over the years has offered a lot of different people many different things."
I agree. I feel it's a really vital service to some people. I also agree that the cost of moderation will be a factor.
I would volunteer to be a moderator. I would happily moderate the boards as part as a team.
I would also pay money to be a member here but I know there are plenty of users here who need ML to be free. I would pay for some of them to be members too if necessary.
The blog post is a masterpiece of understatement. I can't imagine what some people must be feeling right now. I'm a real old two-and-eight.

I certainly won't be. There's more to this MB than just Ambridge -- I spend more time in The Bull and Upstairs than anywhere else.
To be honest there's more than just a faint whiff of a form of gerrymandering about this -- perhaps the SWs and storylines don't come in for quite so much criticism on Twitface and Farcebook?
Not surprised....end of a perfect new year.....

I'm devastated. Really gutted. This place has been such a support through may things, even sometimes by just reading about other people's problems and solutions.
I may not like you all, but I do love you all after a fashion and I will miss you dreadfully.

Do you have a link to the R3 replacement forum? We could ask on there about the software they've used.
There's lots of free software out there but mostly in the more complicated form.
Ackshelly, I know someone who used to run a forum that operated something like this, I'll email and ask him about it. Fairly sure it was free.

Seconded , dino, my thoughts exactly
Peacecandle anyone who reads this board with any care and attention to detail would surely know that you aren't the only person who feels this way.
This place has been very important to very many people for very many years and I think perhaps we were owed (a) more than two weeks' notice and (b) perhaps a bit of consultation.
I'm at a loss to know what's more "Interactive" than here. Surely an "interactive editor" would realise that?
Sigh.

Another vote for Peets Place, which has the advantage that people can e-mail you without you having to give away your e-mail address.
I鈥檓 a member of only one other forum, but if you鈥檙e not a bass player you probably wouldn鈥檛 be interested in it.

I rarely seek out a 大象传媒 tv prog and find myself turning off the radio in annoyance more frequently than before. I did think this board was something that made it worth my while buying a icence.
Well done 大象传媒, one less person prepared to argue for a universal licence fee. It's your by public consent, if the public don't consent you'll be up a gum tree.

"What hope of this?"

Very sad - I've met some wonderful people through this MB and it has really enriched my life.
There are actually 2 Radio 3 refugee boards - R3OK
and the Friends of Radio 3
I can ask about the former (re what sort of software) as I know some of the mods there.
