On Monday of this week a farmer was killed by the big baler he was servicing for the coming silage season. He was 50 yrs old, and becomes yet another dreadful statistic of carnage in our industry.
Two thirds of people killed at work in Scotland in 2011 were farmers/farm workers.
The agricultural death rate is many times that of other industries.
So often it is the same circumstances , people working on their own with dangerous machinery, animals or up on roofs.
So sorry for the family concerned whom I know well.
Yes: sadly, it goes on, doesn't it? And not long ago we read of another death of one who fell into a silo - not something a townie thinks of as a present danger.
But, aside from the sad occasion, I'm glad to see you here, because I had visions of your not knowing about the board shutting down and being lost to us forever. May I hope you will come over to Peet's place and post there from time to time? -
Unless you remember the old, pre-Oct. 2005 board, it can be a bit tricky to use compared with this one. But I hope you'll do it, because a lot of people appreciate your insights.
See you later?

Yes, have been over there on occasions, and will be much oftener in future.
