Just name your most inspirational piece of music and over the next few weeks I'll give them a hearing.
For me:
A Hero's Life R. Strauss.
Carmina Burana for life asserting fun.
The theme music to "the water margin" ok I was young and impressionable.
The Welsh National Anthem every time I see hope in Welsh people's eyes.
Good idea for a thread, redbird.I think it would be a good idea to provide links.
This is the link to the liebestod, my own contribution to this thread:
You are so right, especially for the Water Margin, a piece of music that always made me smile, two cultures music clashing.
After Wagner one has to have the end of Rosenkavalier, but for less expected inspiration Elgar' s Dream of Gerontious. I believe it played a part in Phil Archer's passing away.
When I get off this tablet I'll provide links.
Hmm spelling a bit orf there, touch screens will be the undoing of civilization. (Happy with that z are we Samsung).

The soprano trio at the end of Rosenkavelier is definitely one of the most beautiful passages in all opera, possibly all music. But A Hero's Life......?
The Alpine Symphony every time for me.
I do like this which is the closing music for Master and Commander and by Luigi Boccherini.
I find it uplifting.
The contrast between the utter certainty of a hero's life at the opening of Strauss's music and the sadness (if that is what it is) at the close makes this a chilling masterpiece.
The violin part is inspirational from both a listener and player's POV?
