Quote from article:
"Sadiq Khan told Andrew Neil they were written 20 years ago, and added: "Some of it is in bad taste and should not have been said, but he was writing a book that was at the time, very funny, very witty.""
How can what he said be deemed funny or witty, whenever it was said?
This needs input from Bryan, although his work here is now done, apparently.

There was a thread about Margaret Thatcher in here a couple of years ago which had similar theme running through it.
It was curious to see some posters who would normally proudly wring their hands and wail about being offended by disrespectful comments about the elderly, making disrespectful comments about an old woman.

But then Thatcher isn't an ordinary elderly person.
it's not being elderly that deserves respect, but the person who happens to be elderly.
Why would anyone respect a person who deliberately destroyed whole communities in the interests of her dogma of selfishness?

One or two of the comments I saw were not only childishly phrased, but they were downright nasty.
It informed me more about the people making them than it ever could hope to about Thatcher.

"Why would anyone respect a person who deliberately destroyed whole communities in the interests of her dogma of selfishness?"
Here we go again the usual misguided rubbish.
At the time the World was going through a whole manor of technological changes that unless managed well we would have been left miles/years behind others. We needed a strong leader at the helm and we had that in MT. Yes there were those affected but that was more down to the changes that were happening and not in the interests of her dogma of selfishness.
If you want an example of in the interests of her dogma of selfishness look no further than the Blair/Brown debacle. 鈥淟ets rub middle England鈥檚 nose in it鈥 a move that has changed the whole demographic of this country. Also Brown calling a life long Labour supporter a bigot because she had the audacity to questions Labours immigration policy. Now if that鈥檚 not dogma of selfishness then I don鈥檛 know what is.

Thatcher was and probably still is the most reviled PM ever. The comments from this author, made soem years back, reflect the thoughts of so many who were badly affected by her draconian policies
And never forget that the ultimate "assassination" was done by the Tories, your party, when they got rid of her in 1990

This clown also wanted Britain to lose the Falklands War. What a piece of [insert profanity of choice] who has no respect for the people who put the lives at risk, fighting for this country. This is an example of Miliband's 'One Nation' is it?

"The comments from this author, made soem years back, reflect the thoughts of so many who were badly affected by her draconian policies"
So there you have it. After claiming the Consrvatives are the nasty party Bryan shows his true colours by claiming the following reflects the thoughts of so many, himself included no doubt.
"The Labour candidate in the Eastleigh by-election previously claimed he was "disappointed" Margaret Thatcher was not murdered by the IRA and that he wanted Britain to lose the Falklands War."
Because it didn't fit the political agenda they, some claiming to be Labour supporters, wanted our PM murdered and the people of the Falkland Islands abandoned. In my book his comments are treason and he should be dealt with accordingly.

We know that comprehension is not your strong point but try reading the link again
The comments were made TWENTY years ago in a book, and as I suggested in my post - such thoughts were almost certainly thought by many who suffered under her premisership
Must have been made about the time the Torries themselves threw her out

True, and the same can be said of Blair. However, I doubt an official Tory or LD candidate would wish him dead in the same way this person has.

If there's any alive.
Miners tended to die prematurely due to lung disease.
Mining is a ghastly industry and you'll find many who are grateful that their sons and grandsons aren't condemned to a 'life' down a mine.
Coal mining was having problems a long time before Margaret Thatcher came to power.
The unions had a massive stranglehold on the country in the 1970s and caused much hardship for many with the striking.
It had to end.
I believe that a Labour government would have put a halt to the unions had they been in power during the 80s as well.
Had to happen.
Lots of men didn't like the fact that we had a woman in charge and that was a big problem for many people.

Given that he also wrote for "Spitting Image" and "A Look Back at the Nineties", I suspect that if people really are determined to go back through his comedic output over the years and quote single sentences in isolation, what he wrote in "Things Can....." will be just the tip of the iceberg. I'm far from convinced it has any relevance to his personal political views, let alone his personal political views now.
That said, he seems a strange choice to stand in Eastleigh. Inevitably, his previous writings were going to be brought up and used against him, and AFAIK, he has no connection with the constituency at all, but has been parachuted in from Clapham.
