Just adding my thoughts to this whole business. I have never posted before but have spent many years reading the opinions in The Bull in particular, but also on DTA because I do still love the programme despite it getting a bit weird of late.

I am sure that the 大象传媒 knows how many people love this place even if most are as silent as I have been. I do appreciate that it is not the role of the 大象传媒 to provide support groups, but when they see what has been built up on this site, I cannot believe they can just crush it at such short notice.

So it is as a lurker and a non-contributor that I write this. Thank you to all the people who have helped me to articulate thoughts - sometimes I just read something from someone that completely encapsulates what I feel but couldn't have really put into words before. Or they just make me laugh. Those who have done this without knowing it are:

    Prinkma
    Morty Vicar
    Perkin Warbeck
    Polite Birder
    Malfunction

    and a few others.

    Thank you.

Of course I will end up at Peet's Place, reading comments and finding myself thinking about issues I had never really addressed before. That is what the value of these boards has been - getting me thinking. And I really love that! And what the boards have meant to people with more serious issues than that is utterly immeasurable - ok the 大象传媒 didn't set itself up to provide such a community but that is what has happened and it should perhaps acknowledge that. Don't set up a forum like this in future if you are not going to commit to it: move to Twitter or whatever you have to do, but if a community has already established itself online and it clearly means so much to so many....let it be. Soon, the Twitter and Facebook areas will be replaced by some other forum anyway when they become old hat.

    What a lovely post!

I'd just like to highlight this particular bit:

I started off quoting /part/ of that, but couldn't decide where to cut off, as that statement stands as a whole.

    Just tagging.

Yes, it's a great place, it's a site where English speaking, pro-Blighty Monmouthshire folk can voice 'their' opinions!! Without let or hindrance, ta very much for that, shame its all over.

Thanks Bette. I really love these boards and have enjoyed your messages as well. I think it's the common sense that I appreciate so much.

Feedback tonight was the final straw - I just had to say something, rather than muttering to myself.....that is ultimately a brick wall!

Exactly Bos, because, when they close message-boards - they end-up breaking online-communities as well where people have formed firm friendships and shared a lot of their lives over the years.

    So, the motto is:

If you can't afford to keep a message-board going - don't start one, as, it can damage peoples faith in them if they think they might be terminated one day!

What's amazed me, is how many folk from the SNP, and supposedly disinterested folk living in England, back the Celtic version of the Labour Party.....In Wales?

As a result a new pamphlet, written jointly by Mr Morgan and Mr Hain, makes a case for an explicitly 鈥淲elsh鈥, patriotic party that believes Wales is best off as part of the UK.听

Meaning, Rhodri and Carwyn, want to rule Wales, and its destiny, but, they would like to remain in the UK!! Cos they rather like the Barnett formula!!!

    Exactly my thinking, Red.

I have no idea how they measure the 'value' of boards. They say that only so many thousands are contributing. It would help if they could actually quantify that. I don't think that a few very active people along with so many more inactive souls like me equals money NOT well spent. And so what is the matrix here? Actually not sure whether matrix is the right term so will look forward to correction on that point!

The Wilde observation of the price of everything and the value of nothing comes to mind.

Hi Boz - i just wonder whether the Beeb has done enough to promote these message-boards.

People say we can go on 'facebook', or, 'twitter' after they close, but, i do wonder how many people already on these sites actually realise that 大象传媒 message-boards exist? - i bet it's not a lot, so, they probably don't realise they're missing out on a much better and simpler way to communicate to people and wider public as far as i'm concerned.

You can't put a price on what is living here, for want of a better way to put it. It's not possible. The good these boards do ends up spread around, worldwide. You can't put a price on that, and shouldn't even try.

Too right. I have got a Facebook account and I am apparently on Twitter - I feel no need to contribute to either. I set them up (or rather my nephews did it for me) at the time they were the thing to do, but now I rarely look at either. I appreciate that some people have got the measure of such things and use them well but I can't escape the fact that once on line with these companies you are a slave to them.

I want to feel that I know to whom I am talking.

Exactly Boz, because, from what i've been hearing 'FB' and 't' sites are much more complex to navigate - i bet many posters on them would love to come onto 大象传媒 message-boards if only they'd heard about them - they're far easier to be on and follow.

拢12 per month doesn't seem so bad when you get quality radio and tv. I know there are issues with it all but really, compared to other countries, is that not ok?

And as Red implied, there are other add-ons which, if they were better promoted, would give everyone better value for money. Or would do, if they were not shut down on some unkown whim.

What is this whim and what is it producing in ML's stead? Just asking...

    Boswell

    Just to say

A cat was rescued in Scotland and given a home in Cambridge through thesse boards

When the rescuer sadly died I took said cat to my home in the far west of Ireland

    His name

    Boswell!

And a sweet purry soft thing he is

Without this place he would long since have been destroyed

The power of ML at work.

    Three Wells

That is a lovely story and illustrates perfectly how wonderful these boards are. I found myself in a similar situation with a lovely tabby in Stoke on Trent - I couldn't leave her and she now resides very happily in Newcastle (Tyne not Lyme).

I nevr heard the 大象传媒 once suggest the message board after TA - it was always the 'fan club' Archers Addicts. People found their way here despite the 大象传媒.
