Bore da pawb.
OK we've only got a week but let's make it the best week evva in ML.
Morning Grace, and everyone to come
Yes let's
Just skimmed through today's (it's still today here - 7 hours behind at the moment) thread and wanted to say a particular "Well Done" to Pecan and Buckie. I'm not sure I'd have opened my mouth Pecan - I hate confrontation - oh I'd probably thought of all manner of things to say to them well after the event but I'd most likely have just found myself seething silently.
Snowing heavily here in the mountains tonight - unfortunately as I just looked outside and realized we'd failed to put the cover back on the hot tub, so we had to go out in the snow to rectify it. Just hope that it doesn't drop enough to cause us a problem driving back to Denver tomorrow
Before it started snowing there was one of the best fireworks displays I think I've ever seen down in the valley. We didn't realize it was on so we hadn't gone down there, but we watched it from the house. Really spectacular and long lasting. Apparently there was an ice-sculpture festival down there earlier today - a Fire and Ice Festival. It seems that the town council came up with the idea of holding it back in the summer, when the whole of this part of the state was banned from holding 4th July fireworks, and they realized that there was a huge "restocking" fee to return the ones they'd already bought.

Fire and ice - how lovely.
It's taken me an hour to catch up on all the threads I've been posting on! It's been lovely to see 'old' names again. Such a shame that it has taken this crisis to bring them back.
Another log delivery today (its scary how much we have got through this winter). I must dig out my clipboard and don my I'm A Very Important Person look for supervising.

We've uaes rwice the usual amount too MyMum & as for the oil bill!
Good morning you three.
I know that I am a rare visitor these days ( due only to circumstances beyond my control), but I feel utterly bereft that this kitchen will soon be bulldozed, and it's dear occupants made homeless and scattered to the four winds.
Loving thoughts to you all.
You have enriched my life - and I do not say that lightly.
Hello OW
I feel a bit the same about all the old "faces" Grace, it's really lovely to see them - and I've just thoroughly enjoyed the "Absent Friends" thread - it's just a shame about the circumstances of their return. Glad that so many have made the trip back though

What you too?
We've far too many chairs, mainly made by an Uncle of mine & therefore not up for grabs.
There's no light in the sky, but a bird is singing outside the kitchen window.
Good morning all.
Clear and chilly. Good to see you Pat.
Hope you don't get to the stage of burning your furniture dear ladies.
Charity shop duties this morning. Unfortunately I won't be able to party with you this weekend as I will be visiting the Lake District but will be back for a final goodbye to the this kitchen on Monday morning before relocating.
Have a pleasant day.

How nice to see you back here, patriarchou, albeit in sad circumstances.
I need to be off out early this morning to sign on at the JobCentre, but I aim to be here when they ring down the final curtain, unplug the kettle, disconnect the Aga...

Now outside breakfast and preparing for the Commute.
Grace, I trust that delivery comes in on time - the forecast for the end of the week doesn't look like it'll do anything for keeping us warm.
Hope all have as good a day as possible.

I've just registered there , as it looks to be accessible, even to technophobes such as myself.
There were no pictures, flashing or otherwise, on my screen, but I did notice that there was a button at the bottom which allowed one to switch off adverts.
Perhaps that would solve your problem .
Hope it helps.

Not long til Easter for those who are back at the chalkface. I never had half terms except when I worked in ADult Ed. Now it seems customary in FE too. Of course in HE we had "reading weeks".
The logs are due "lunch-time". I have two left!

At the top is a bar - it's quite thin - which has a number of things on it including "Profile"
Click on that then on "Modify Profile"
Scroll down to the section that says "Account Preferences" among the options it gives you is one saying "Show Avatars" and another saying "Show Images"
select "No" in the drop down box and that should do the trick for you

Glad to be of assistance. I remembered that Sue had said somewhere that it was possible, so I just went and had a look for the most likely way to do it. Hope it works
Right bedtime for me - or at least I'm going to take my iPad and lie in bed playing my latest word game. OH is watching Battleship - which is a really rather silly film despite the presence of one Mr L Neeson.....
Morning all. Shame Youngest hasn't quite grasped that half term means he could just go back to sleep.
The radio alarm usually comes on with Today, but it's other programmes so there must be a problem. Have they all gone on strike in support of the 'save ML campaign??'
If only.....
Today's Outing is to the Royal Gunpowder Mills. A bit of a favourite here. Lots of activities (this half term it's revolting science - learn about farts and snot, alongside their usual learn about big bangs stuff), set in a wonderful huge location with lots of space to run around.
Need to make OH sarnies......laters!

Bore da possums
Back on the shores of the R. Mersey after a lovely journey through the Marches. We almost made it back in daylight too.
Grace - fingers crossed that all goes well with the delivery.
The forecast is for a very cold and windy week.
Just skimmed through the tail end of yesterday:
Well done Buckie for being the Good Samaritan - it doesn't bear thinking what might have happeed had she fallen under the back wheels of a vehicle and not been seen. Sorry we were not at home to wave at your outlaws as they sailed past - or maybe they flew in ?
Ditto to PeCan for speaking out in the ladies' loo.
Batty - whoever said the apple doesn't fall far from the tree was right about your OH and his pa. My OH (who many of you know is an engineer) also has a habit of taking things apart to see how they work and is good at testing to destruction. All started when he was three and took his granny's clock apart...
Just getting light here - hope everyone has a good day.

Good morning all. Quiet morning today after yesterday's excitement. Another lovely sunny day in prospect, so we have that to look forward to. La Bez, since you have been spending a lot of time in Colorado, why not read James Mitchener's "Centennial" if you haven't done so already of course. It charts the lovely Blue valley of Spruce trees over thousands of years, and the more recent history of the state.
I too hope this is the best week ever.

Good morning, everyone.
"My OH (who many of you know is an engineer) also has a habit of taking things apart to see how they work and is good at testing to destruction. All started when he was three and took his granny's clock apart..."
FiL used to take things apart to see how they worked, but couldn't put th back together again. DS, from the same age as your OH, used to take things apart too, but we noticed he would put all the bits onto separate piles and then put them back together again. It was like miracle to us. Especially when, from the age of 8, he used to mend things for us. When we visited friends and rellies, the first thing he would ask was "Have you got anything broken that I can mend for you?".
Yes - he's an engineer! Unfortunately, he now lives 200 miles away.

Morning all
Woke up, switched on radio, checked time, reminded myself that 'yes it is Monday', stared at clock again, wondered what had happened overnight - repeated until the hour when they said there is a journalists strike.
Not a good start to the day for a radio news junkie.
Sorry Pecan, I meant to post again to congratulate you for speaking up yesterday. Like others I would probably have thought but not said.
Must remember I have a man coming round this afternoon to measure up the bathroom and prepare options. Realised yesterday that (apart from the cost and upheaval) I have been avoiding getting anything done because I get really uncomfortable about having tradesmen in the house - not too bad for a few hours, but several days - NO.

Miladou - there must be an engineering gene somewhere!
Another who hopes the journos have come out in sympathy rather than strike for more money...
Mrs T
OW, the sad truth is I had to give myself a kick up the wotsit this morning. All those cheery 'enjoy the holidays' comments - well meant but the reality with boisterous 4 and almost 8 year old boys is noisy, chaotic, and if outings weren't organised the house would probably fall down by the end of the day. Meantime work is busy so I'll have to keep an eye on emails and log onto tonight to deal with something that's due to come in today.
Looked at that way, not much of a holiday. But of course it's just the same for all the other families with young children and 2 working parents. And quite a bit will be fun - what I could really do with is a holiday from Getting Things Organised.
I know - I need a wife!

Morning all.
Have been dis-combobulated by the lack of Today
And just discovered that OH won't be back until 10pm - he'll ring if later. It came as a complete surprise as I don't think he has been getting enough attention from me since The News of the Closure broke.
Good job about the logs my Mum - the forecast looks decidedly chilly later in the week.
AES - one of the reasons we went with the builders we did a couple of years ago - was that I felt comfortable with them when they came to size up the job for their quote. If they are going to be in the house for a couple of months, you have to feel comfortable about them as people.
Off to catch up with everything else..

Good Morning All!
Grey and misty here. Woke up to the continuity announcer waffling on to spin out the time before Farming Today and saying the NUJ were on strike. It's OK except I don't know what time it is.
Loads of little things to do, phone calls and such. Must not forget the phlebotomist at 11.59!
Really well done Pecan in the Lavs. I've always been too scared to do similar and always think of really good things I should have said, in the following half hour.

I well understand your dilemma re workmen in your home.
My house has been in need of essential repairs for several years.
A bad experience with one builder left me wary.
Increasing disability made me even more apprehensive.
During the past, very wet, summer, an area which had been seeping water through for quite some time became an area which was allowing niagara falls into the house.
It could no longer be ignored, particularly as I had a relative staying at the time to witness the spectacle.
I contacted the builder who had completed next door's extension.
He was both efficient and kind.
I therefore plucked up,the courage to ask him to quote on the much larger problems that had loomed for so long.
The work has now been completed., and both that builder and his equally excellent workmate, have become my friends.
Good luck to you in finding equally valuable treasures.

First quiet day here for ages so it shall be spent discovering where do I go next. I had a quick peep in Peets last night and I don't think that is for me. There seemed to be great deal of aggression around and I prefer a quiet life.
Well done Pecan.
