There's a letter in the Telegraph today lamenting the demise of the messageboards. The writer is apparently a poster here. In the circumstances, I was struck by her name...can it really be ....
Liz Bangs-Jones??!

The writer is indeed a poster here, but not prolifically on this part of the board. Iirc she attended one of the Tate Meets. A very nice person she was too.

Thanks for the link, Linda. This Liz can't make up her mind whether to pretend to be one of us ("/we/ have the consequence that could have been predicted: to get rid of /us/ all") or not ("the crude imposition of urban modernisation in this way was not what /they/’d wanted").
Strange (-: that the one alternative site she mentions is one that wasn't mentioned in the Telegraph article (AFAIK she hadn't created it.... er... I mean it hadn't been created when Sarah Rainey had written her article published on Thu 14).

Ah, right WL. I may have confused her with another poster who I met, who has also been vocal in our defence in the past. Belay my previous post in that case.

Ah, didn't know that, Reggie. Sentiments such as "The messageboard became grumpier, criticism more barbed." in her letter gave me a different impression, but I'll stand corrected seeing as you actually met her.

One of must have hold of the right end of the stick anyway. Not sure which of us it is.

Aargh, cross-posted with you. I'll hold fire on this one.
I recognise the name Liz Bangs-Jones, and ISTR that several of us speculated as to who she might be, but I don't recall any firm conclusions being reached back then.

I think you've "met" her under her real name fairly recently.

She's a 'respected poster' You'd faint if you knew.....
There was another letter the other day in the Telegraph & he had a name of a well known actor....??

Whizz Bang Joan!

Good old Whizz-Bang Joan! (This is how some people heard her name when she was on Feedback a few years ago.)
W-L, she is a poster here, and has been for many years.

Aha. Made the connection now. You were right, Reggie, in your msg 2, in every detail. I certainly haven't seen her around much on ML. Eilis, AFAIK I haven't met her since that meet, and have only just made the connection between her real name and her ML name.

Please don't anyone who knows the connection between RL name and ML name say it. It's for her to do that if she chooses.
Not directed at anyone in particular, and indication that anyone will, but it's the sort of occasion when someone just might without thinking about it.

Wasn't going to, Badge. Just putting two and two together.

I put "met" in inverted commas because I was referring to you both being in the same FB Mustardland group, that's all. Her RL name would have meant nothing to me a week ago either.

You're right, she did, after she was on Feedback and people were using that name, and she wanted to respond to what people were saying about her appearance on the programme, but I had the feeling people who had been to a meet were making the connection between the RL name on that letter and her main ML identity.
W-L, as I said I wasn't thinking about anyone in particular - only tagged on to your post as the last in the thread.

I've no idea, I'm afraid. It'll have to be a surprise for you.

I could check Reggie's Tate thread but I wouldn't want to say whether or not she's on the list as that would narrow her identity down to a few dozen posters for any random person who might be reading this thread.

I'm relieved that my first thoughts were right. She hasn't put her name down for the meet next Saturday, as far as I know, and I think her attendance at the one she did go to was probably a one off thing as a result of being on Feedback.
