Download the Script and you shall have them. <-- Space for smiley for those not able to see them.
Are you setting up in competition with the spat thread?
No - I just think it could be quite liberating for people on here.
(In my experience labelling a mb exchange a 'spat' is more often than not just a lazy way of trying to get oneself or one's mates out of an uncomfortable corner of their own making.
It's very like calling someone a WUM or a Troll or < insert your own secret acronym here >
>In my experience labelling a mb exchange a 'spat' is more often than not just a lazy way of trying to get oneself or one's mates out of an uncomfortable corner of their own making<
You may choose to do that fat_kid (although I'm not sure that I understand how that would work) - I tend to use it as a synonym for an argumentative and often somewhat personal exchange with insufficient in the way of sound evidence for the views advanced to qualify as a debate. Can be measured with the aid of the Spat-O-Meter.
I don't think WUM or troll are terribly useful descriptions of people in general - although there are clearly times when a poster is posting as s/he does in order to provoke a reaction which is likely to cause a spat (as defined above).
Doesn't everyone post to provoke a reaction?
However the kind of reaction that appears is at least as much the responsibility of the respondee as it is the initial poster.
In fact I'd go further and say it's really 100% their own work.
>Doesn't everyone post to provoke a reaction?<
An interesting question which explains quite a lot.
No, I don't think so. Quite often I post because there's something I want to say - indeed, I may be more interested in getting it straight in my own head than worrying about what response it may generate.
>However the kind of reaction that appears is at least as much the responsibility of the respondee as it is the initial poster.<
Yes, we all own our own reactions and severe provocation is only rarely a defence in law - but that doesn't actually justify provocative behaviour.
This shows quite a different understanding of 'provoking a reaction' to mine.
A reaction can be a wistful private smile or it can be a direct public response.
It can be positive or it can be negative.
But ultimately each of us has the power to post on here or not, exactly how we choose.
You could just start with a couple to see how it goes.
No bouncey ones nor anything too colourful.
