I saw a flock of these in the park.
There were about 40 of them but just the one actually had a black head.
As this is summer/breeding plumage this one seemed a bit premature - why so different.

I suppose this should go in the bird table thread in TVH.
I think if you start to study gulls you will find all sorts of anomolies, or any bird species come to that. I should think it amounts to it's hormonal clock running a bit fast.
I have observed Ruff getting into breeding plumage at vastly different periods.

Spring has sprung.
Very acrobatic flier is the black-headed - not as good as the Chough, but interesting to observe all the same.

They usually get their black heads around now. Sometimes earlier. May have been mostly made up of last year's chicks, though.

There have always been threads about birds and wildlife in TB.
I saw a school of dolphins this morning (will I get modded for being off topic?).

I don't dispute that, however, I think most of the ML birders keep an eye on the bird table and are always willing to answer bird type questions.
Not at all sure if there is a dolphin special interest group in TVH.

OTOH, there's more traffic in TB and people with knowledge usually see threads asking these sorts of questions. I don't think it can be assumed that only people using the thread in TVH know about birds.
By the way, my dolphin comment was somewhat tongue in cheek (and there is a natural history thread in TVH - not that it matters anymore).
I don't really patronise TVH (and am hardly likely to start now!) although I did use to go to the bird section but then stopped.
Overall I have always found TB an exceleent forum for posing questions of all sorts.
Yes Nigel.
