I received an unexpected e-mail from Microsoft, thanking me for my 'Purchases' When I saw what I'd unknowingly bought, I realised my grandson had downloaded three games which ended up costing me £119.97p.
I hadn't realised getting him a Live Gold Membership through the xbox itself, meant my credit card details were there ready waiting for the next press of a button! As I'd turned off the automatic renewal, I'd fully expected that any future purchases would have to have the card details re-entered for security, but no!
Apparently my grandson went in to the games section on his xbox where the games could be downloaded. He just clicked download and they did! He said he didn't know it would cost me money.
The on-line help didn't work as the option to 'block purchases' wasn't even an option, but thankfully this morning after requesting a call back, I was called back within a minute and the kind gentleman removed my card details and explained that in future I should buy next years 'live membership' via a retail store and not on-line.
What a relief as I hadn't slept all night for worrying. My lesson learned is never trust a 10 year old with your finances.

That's not really fair. You set this thing up for your grandchild and he made use of it. He is ten years old and cannot be expected to know the ins and outs of this website - you are an adult and should be able to read small print.
He may well not have realised it cost you money. There are plenty of things that can be downloaded for free.
Don't blame him. Blame yourself for not going into the ins and outs of this present before setting it up.

Oh Dame Celia, that was a bit harsh, I know it was my fault. I never realised that by using his Gamer name, for the membership meant my card details would be linked and couldn't be removed.
I'm not very good at all this xbox malarkey, hence my error.
