Just one last call on ML, and I know people have minds on the closure, but if anyone can point me in a direction of what to do, I'd be very grateful.
Resurrected old computer, seemed to work fine. Downloaded all latest software I have been using. Again, ok. This went on for a week, and I was feeling pretty chuffed. Then ....
Wouldn't boot (sometimes). Monitor just flashed screens of different lights. OK, checked connections, unplugged everything etc. Zilch. Changed monitor to an older one. OK at first, but then same manifestation (but just black screen on booting). Occasionally, things seem to work ok, but the computer will just stall (mouse dies).
Can anyone give me a clue as to where to look for the source of problem? Whilst the computer /is/ working, I run S&B, Dell diagnostics (PC care), System Mechanic - anything I can think of!
I've got a new computer to set up, and wanted to use this old one for various things, but I have the feeling that /I/ am doing something wrong, and don't want to jinx the new one.

I'm guessing the motherboard battery is preventing it getting through the POST checks. It's one of those little 10p-alike lithium jobs.
Sorry, could you translate (or just pulling my leg, a bit?). I have a netbook I can use for searching solutions, but don't know what to look for! - Right now, old computer has fired up again and I am currently re-doing all the checks I can think of

Here's a fairly clear video of what to do. It has reminded me that the clock/date will probably go wrong before the computer fails to boot entirely. Normally these batteries will last about 5 years.
Thanks! Late at night, but I'll have a closer look at video tomorrow. It might just be coincidence, then, that I appear to have bugrupped two computers over the past two months ...

You'll probably want the hoover handy if the case hasn't been opened for 5 years.
Please don't make fun of me, Jack. I am down to a lowly netbook right now. I feel that I have a jynx on desktops. However, I am /not/ superstitious, so I am sure there is a perfectly good explanation - somewhere.
