Retired Rural Person - I remember the phrase well but couldn't remember why. Just googled and got a whole lot of stuff about Liz Lochead's play and eventually got a tiny bit about knocking the head of a flower. I can't say I remember the game but something is obviously deep seated.

Hope you get your finger sorted out today, Pan.

Isn't this Oscar Pistorious story getting more and more convoluted...

I'm off for my first visit to the physio late afternoon - am hoping she can do something with my knee - it's a pain - literally.

Am off to put the kettle back on.

Just tried to start a thread in Sue's - don't seem to have managed it - too early to bother her. Will sort it later.

Well I guess it won't be a soporific topic MyMum!

I wont be around for the closing of the Board as I have a RL commitment. I will be with everybody in thought though.

    Morning all
Not long back in NJ and about to head for bed as it's 1 am

It dawns on me that I shall need to get up very early next Monday if I want to be able to post before we get closed down - my normal Monday alarm time of 6:50 is only 10 minutes before close time. I shall have to wake up when OH does at 5.

Pan - I hope that you get the finger sorted out soonest. Sounds like a foreign object will be the best outcome to hope for.

Came home to find that the house was actually tidier than when we left - no, everything is in one piece so I don't think he had a wild party and needed to tidy up afterwards....

He took it into his head to tidy up the kitchen table which, over the years, has become a dumping ground for all sorts of stuff, and is never actually used as a table.

Well my feet are done soaking so I shall say good night and see you later in the day.

I will join in on Pan's hand-holding. Reminds me of when I was teaching in Nepal. I started working in a village school as well as my usual one and every day the kids would come to meet me and squabble over who held my hands so I ended up with one holding each finger of each hand

Enjoying the stories of railway layouts. Sounds as though I got off lightly with my ex. He was a car nut and I can remember one Christmas serving dinner around an engine - an unusual festive table arrangement.

Power will be off all day, while they replace the overhead cables, so I think we'll go for a jaunt as sunshine is promised.
Horrible dream that I was locked in a huge outdoor compound, planes and helicopters whirling over head, but it was misty and they couldn't see me frantically waving below. Managed to climb the wall and looked down into busy street below, and called for help, but no one looked up.

I've spending part of the last couple of days trying to find out what can be done to customise those messageboards, but it's hard finding any info at all, and not everything I hoped would be possible turns out to be possible. *sigh* 21st-century computing. CF I loved your post last night. I have very fond childhood memories of lying in bed at my Granddad's house, listening to the trains rumble past, they used to make the glass in the front door rattle just a tiny bit. With trains being such a huge part of my life (though that came from the other side of the family) it was wonderfully comforting, but also exotic as all the trains at home were models.

    Good Morning everyone

You wont be surprised to hear that given that we are 35 miles north of her that we have the same heavy frost as AES. It is -3 at the moment although if it is anything like yesterday it will turn out to be a lovely day. In the 30 mins it took me to get to where I was meeting my friend the temp went up from -1 to 4.

Diri, thanks for the link yesterday. You are lovely.

OW I was joking about people getting thrown out of the ebs but Im often very aware that people are taking about really interesting days ahead and all Im saying is im off to work!!!!!

Today is one such day. Im teaching this morning and seeing students at either side of class and then doing one of my new things this afternoon. Slight variation in that Im house sitting for our friends for a few months but it is a 36 mile round trip which reduces down to about 10 miles if I go there by taking a different route home from this work.

All this talk of cars but we are going in the other direction as we really dont need 2 anymore with Mr WR not working. My car is going to our son ( he already has it but we havent transferred ownership yet) and Im using Mr WR's car. He has only needed to use the camper which he has on long loan 3 times since Christmas which kind of proves that he doesnt need a car so we are both being sensible. It doesnt stop us having middle of the night conversations about how weird it will be to not have our own cars. In effect I wont own a car and he wont have the use of one and vice versa.

Good luck to Pan and i hope that Pecan has a lovely day with dsis.

I will be able to post until quite late on Monday as have a meeting at 11. I will miss all the people I have enjoyed speaking with over the years.

I hope that everyone has the best day possible ( and apologise in advance to all the people who have posted things since I started writing this post as I have been doing things in the middle of writing so there are probably loads of new news).

Good Morning/afternoon all from Western Australia, it is afternoon and the temp is down to 27c should be a cool night,( maybe 16c) the hens are resting under bushes with their wings spread out, and some have their beaks open and are gasping a little...it is so dry here that I have started pruning roses and sundry bushes, usualy do this at the end of autumn, even the big lavender and rosemary bushes are dying off....the Cat with no Name, spends the days spreadeagled under my car, but does come in when we put the aircon on, which has been quite a lot this year with temps hovering around 40c.......it is so nice to read here of snow and frost, and rain wonderfull rain........I have noticed that we are not closing all the doors and windows untill about 9am, and we are opening up at about 5pm, so summer must be on its way out.

I flit back and forward from Sue.s Peet's and here, each lunch time to see if the early thread has been started, usualy by OW, didnt get to look this lunch time as a Rosella (parrot) was stuck in a shed and was in a huge panic...we got it out and flew off in a demented fashion screeching to the skies about how evil we were, what a cheek, we are the people that put seed out for them and let them eat and destroy every piece of fruit on our trees, they didnt find the grapes this year......so far. I hope to get used to the other 'ML' boards because although I dont post very often , I do lurk and read just about every day.

Now to refill my glass with ice, then check the other boards...........hope to see you all over on other boards when 'the time'comes.

    Good Morning All!

Lovely pinky purple mist hanging over The Ridge this morning.

Apologies for thr strong smell of Anti Peck, it's like creosote and I can vouch for the fact it tastes foul. ( Yes, I know what we call 'taste' is in fact due to odour .......)

Just received an automated phone call re the arrival of our "kitchen appliance" ie the washer. Very stern statement that the old one should be emptied and out of the place for the new one. Well this couple of septuagenarians just about managed to do that, spurred on by a (rejected) quote of 拢85 to fit the new one.........
The old one outside the back door ( thickly covered with hoar frost atm) will be uplifted on Thursday at a cost of 拢9. We could have left it on the pavement for the endless pickups which patrol our streets but "there are limits" which is our family's watch word(s). Besides it's full of NDN's cars.

Shower now available so "Let's get this day started". Onwards and upwards. SFAnne鈩

Change of plan. Youngest has a mildly dicky tum so we'll have to stay at home today. Nothing too serious and he's clearly not feeling unwell.

There are Works going on round the corner from us to replace kerbstones. This involves a lot of diggers and dumpers. I think they may get a visit.

WL can you help me with my login problem? I posted on Sue's help section about it as I know others were having the same problem but I don't know if they found an answer?. Basically I often find I can't log in through my desktop (mac, running safari browser), but iPad/iPod are both fine.

    Good |Morning
Another morning with a heavy frost.
It had that feel when I left a meeting at 5pm yesterday. Certainly the night felt chilly. There is a lovely wintry looking sun shining in a very pale blue sky.
Yesterday there were a lot of signs of Spring in the gardens- early specie crocii out in a lot of gardens as well as snowdrops in abundance.
As the garden here dries out it would appear the snowdrops have survived but it looks as though other bulbs have not liked being under water for over three months... Certainly a lot of the clumps of Iris Reticulata have disappeared. We shall see what happens. The lawn still holds a lot of water and there is still a lake albeit a rapidly diminishing one.
Cat has moved to her warm spot and no doubt will decline a toddle until it is warmer under paw.
Must away and produce an agreed financial report for tomorrow and do the usual lists.
Take the good from today and for all finding the road hard strength to cope.
    Now where is that teapot?
I shall be with you all when EB opens on Monday but sadly not when it closes. A sad day indeed.

What an exciting life down under.
We have a heavy frost and bright sunshine. Mrs. Rb wants to go to Chester, so I am in tag-along mode.
Listening to the radio about the power gap for the next 5 years along with the rising costs (up to three times the present day charges). Lovely to be told we are better off than the rest of Europe with cheaper electricity.

Lack of parrots made up with large number of blackbirds searching for breakfast.

Morning - it was clear here when I got up but now is foggy. There is a good frost - my resilient old Fatsia is drooping in a most alarming way. Good job I know that as soon as the frost clears it will be perked up again.

I feel quite melancholic today - I had a little go in sue's place last night. It is good of her to make a space for us but ... ah well I am sure I will get used to it. Is it possible to answer a person directly or do you always have to add your reply to the end of the thread? (Sorry probly not the proper place to ask this!).

It is so nice to see Ann again - and wonderful that so many of our previous posters and friends are popping back in - too late, alas, but welcome anyway.

anyway, work calls and I will be back later.
