If I don't remember much about you

  I have recently filled in a form for the council to confirm that I am still eligible for an exemption from council tax on the basis of severe mental impairment. It hurts every time I have to confirm it.
  
  People read what I write and perceive the articulacy and infer intelligence, or IRL they hear the accent (when I'm using my old school accent not my local dialect) and infer education and therefore intelligence.
  
  But bits of my mind don't work. When I was younger, I had an IQ of a hundred and forty something. Not by any means a genius, but respectable. Now, I can't concentrate long enough to get through a test properly and can't even manage 100.
  
  The relevance? Well, some of you make an impression in some way and I remember you, but very often, your names pass me by. I am a nit-picker, too wound up about detail to pay attention to who said what most of the time. On the MH thread, I used to keep a table on my desktop that roughly summarised people. I don't mean reams of it, just stuff like "female, depressed, retired" or whatever. I stopped and people on the thread are very kind about my vagueness that means that I can remember I know people but not much about them. The script also helped for a while but all my descriptions disappeared so I gave up. It's pretty random who I remember and who I don't and what I do or don't remember about people.
  
  So if I don't say goodbye to you anywhere or I bump into you elsewhere and can't place you, please don't take it personally. It's probably that you're absolutely lovely, as indeed are vast numbers of people on here.
  
  I'm aware this is a very self-centred message, but I don't suppose I'm the only one with this problem, so I hope people won't think it too presumptuous if I ask you to regard this as on behalf of others who perhaps would be less inclined to say "I'm sorry, please don't be offended, but I have only the vaguest recollection of who you are and of anything about you."
