I wrote to my MP and mentioned Slightly Foxed's missive to Ms Miller.
He replied that Govmt ministers can't intervene in something like this, but
he would take the matter of the closure up with the ´óÏó´«Ã½ and let me know what they said!
Worth trying other MPs???

I tried 'Newsnight' - not even an 'out of office' reply.
According to 'They Work for You' mine, the MP, rebels a lot, so I was hopeful.

He'll get the same reply as everyone else who has asked.
These boards have been an added extra for long enough. They're not a priority, nor should they be. The fact that they cost peanuts to run and that 1000 people out of all the ´óÏó´«Ã½ users think that they should continue is irrelevant.
Accept that they're closing and move on.
Just been on my MP's web site
As I live in a city centre area it's all about homelessness and food banks.
I would feel like a bit of a middle class whinger bleating about a message board, sad though I am about its closure.

Twenty years of In Our Time isn't a priority either, but they've found the money for that one.
The love, human contact and support that these boards have offered is priceless and I, for one, would have been happy to donate a small amount to keep them going.

Why d'you think you have the right to decide when enough is enough? Why d'you think enough is enough? And, d'you think you're somehow special in knowing when enough is enough?
Youse one very special know all, aren't you?

PS. 'Move on'. Try that stupid psychobabble idea when your world is shattered. Moving on is for a herd of cattle.
Do they have a message board too?
Your world is shattered? Really?
Have you ever lost a job, your partner left or lost your home? Then your world is shattered..believe me. No world is shattered by the ´óÏó´«Ã½ closing a blooming message board.
"Your world is shattered."
Let's put this in perspective. The family of Reeva Steenkamp have had their world shattered. Reeva cannot be replaced.
Believe it or not, this board can be.

Gosh I wish there was a 'like' button on this message board.
No, the message board doen't shatter anyone's world,
but,
many threads have played a part in minimising the shattering of some people's real worlds.
Try the Cancer Copers, you may find that it makes a very real difference when your world is not so much shattered, as, smashed.
I know.

Don't be more of an idiot than you can help, dear soul. I am 67, have lost my parents and far worse. What I was saying was that idiotic expressions like 'move on' or 'get over it' don't take account of real life and pain.
Which is why I loathe them.
hmmm, and that'll be... doesn't

Dresden, I do hope you will register at Sue's. I would hate to lose touch with you, old friend.
I may be there more than Peet's, not sure yet.
Well why say 'your life is shattered then' no one can tell you were being ironic, the rest of your posts deserve a BAFTA ( but not an OSCAR ).
If you are 67 then surely you realise such expressions of such sorrow actually diminish real life tragedy.

I wasn't being ironic. I pointed out that the glib 'just move on' is not helpful for people whose need is greater than yours.
I suspect that you are not regular visitors to the Cancer, Candle continued page94.........threads,
For them 'moving on' is not an easy pull-yourself-by-you-bootstraps option.
A car hit me from behind today' My already long ago broken neck got a pasting, my lovely old dog shot into the front of the car and, guess what? I 'm not suing anyone.Things and happenings can't be changed, but sympatht and empathy are worth their weight in gold.

You really are quite daft in a very worringly kinda way. I think you must either be very, very immature or a budding psychopath!
Every single poster on this board has been through the hell of loss, yet, you pick out stuff making current headlines! Attention seeker, springs to mind?
I sympathise and empathise for real life 'stuff', and no I haven't been on the threads you mention because luckily I haven't had cancer or lost a near relative yet. I have family and friends that I have supported through all sorts of illness but have not required a message board to discuss it.
However I have been homeless, lost my job and my partner, so feel well qualified to know what 'life shattering' really means and the fact this message board closes on Monday des not rank anywhere near that level.
Still I shall view with interest demise of this board and the extremes of emotion people display

How? - is there another site with 9 Archers message-boards on it?
I think it's safe to say that many of the posters on here have treated the Archers site as more than a series of message-boards, but, indeed, as a place to meet-up with fellow Archers fans and others to chat about day-to-day things.
Alright, so there's no death involved apart from the site itself, but, posters still think they're losing something that they've helped build-up over the years,

Been drinking too much so about to break my own rule from a few posts back.
Doesn't anyone else find it all a bit sad that internet trolls gain so much pleasure from being spiteful to others? Some must lead an empty life if that is all they have to cling onto. What poor emotionally crippled little lives they must lead, and if anything I feel pity for them, but I do find that hard when they have nothing in their hearts but to enjoy upsetting others.
Anyhow time for bed, night night all.

But the MB is there to give help and advice .. for some people that is all there is. The practical advice can be invaluable .. and the laughs help..
For examples see the MH board and the cancer copers board ..
I suspect though that kindness, companionship , wit, erudition and education .. is not part of the ´óÏó´«Ã½s corporate image any more ..

This message board has been more than just a place to DTA or have a rant about your favourite bete noir (sorry to early to remember how to do hats) political or otherwise. It has been a place to give and get support ( and you have had it too, sausages, in the past). Because it was under the aegis of the ´óÏó´«Ã½ many people felt 'safe' here and probably would never have posted on a message board elsewhere.
It is the fact that we have been directed to post on commercial boards with dubious records of safety that really pi$$e$ me off.
The writing was truly on the wall when hosting and moderation was out-sourced. I know I am not the only one whose posts have been zapped "by mistake".
It is the diversity of ML that makes it unique and I doubt whether that will be re-created elsewhere.
