On Gardeners' World on Friday Joe planted up the zinc planters for winter. First of all, what happened to the plants that were already in the planters (and what were the plants - I can't remember!)?
But secondly he planted up lovely new plants, including the beautiful Japanese Umbrella Pine - sciadopitys verticillata. "It will be fine in a container for about five years" says Joe - failing to tell us that it grows slowly for about 10 years and then turns into a monster. I wonder what they will do with the tree when it's bigger?
Bin it?
TV gardening is for a large part tageted at intant effect. I suppose some of the plants used at berryfields wil either find their way bach to the nurserie or will be put to good use elsewhere.
That's what I worry about - I don't agree with hoiking plants out when they have reached a certain point, or making things look good for the viewers. That's not really what gardening is all about!
