No.
Do you think that your postings on the other messageboards along the "Do you think that...is over rated" theme are funny?
Or do you think that you are just a WUM (I note that you have already found out what that stands for.)
Goodbye

Hey Rhoda - what's a WUM?
Go back to the footy boards sweety.....
Plocket..it's wind up merchant....he's been on all the boards.....
I have been on four boards, with the same valid point.
As of yet, nobody has given me an answer.
Go back to the football boards sweetie?
Why the need to patronise over a simple question? I got a similar response from the "food lovers" board. All i wished to know was the placement of the topic in terms of global issues, problems and importance. So far I'm yet to meet a reasonable mind or answer.
Maybe it's because talking about gardening takes our minds off the terrible world we live in...everyone needs a break sometimes..... and we all do quite a lot for global issues - recycling for one and helping the environment with everything we grow - perhaps your time would be better spent doing something practical to help your cause rather than doing a survey when people are not interested. Goodbye!

I don't think gardening is over-rated, I wouldn't do it otherwise.
That's all you are after isn't it Grumaldinlo?
Listen, this is a cheery little corner of the beeb website, do you really think you are being nice trying to wind people up? I have looked at your other threads and have found that it is a game you enjoy. The problem is, you will really pi** people off over here and this message board will end up being pre-modded.
I suspect you will answer to this message but please don't bother and I urge all garden MB users not to add to this wind up. God only knows what sort of gratification he is getting from it.

You don't have a valid point that's why...It's an insult to the bbc to say they don't provide as much coverage to global issues. Good enough reason to remove you from their boards I feel...
Shalln't be responding to you from here on. Hope nobody else does.
I think gardening is underrated in general. So many people have gardens which are empty or with just a few half-dead bedding plants when they could be growing vegetables or encouraging wildlife, for example.

Well Kathy if their garden is over grown - they ARE helping wildlife! Gardeners on the whole transform a piece of natural ground into something quite unnatural - a garden.
However, this thead started on an "overated" theme and by that I take it to mean - on T.V. and to justify that you'd have to survey the great British public's interests and give each one proportionate air time - there are the same number of people fishing as do watch football. Let's stick to the gardening eh?

Maybe look somewehere else, or if you've got lots of time to spare to look for a reasonable mind ... try introspection ...
If you like gardening you're welcome, both on topic and off topic.
But just posting "do you think ... is overrated" accross the boards isn't very inventive or entertaining.
In any case your approach doesn't get the point accross you're genuinly interested in gardening or the people that like gardening.
I didn't mean overgrown, I meant with nothing or half dead bedding plants, as I said. Many people mow their lawns and cut the hedges regularly, but never do anything else. That's not really good for wildlife due to the neatness and lack of flowers and seeds.

Yes, sorry about that Kathy - I saw that when I re-read. I was deep in a Twiglet Zone of rememberance after being on Friends Reunited and reminscing with an old neighbour about another neighbour who only ever did his garden once a year enveloping the area in clouds of smoke similar to Buncesfield oil depot just now. The only reason he did it at all was because it used to be a condition of having a council house was to tend a tidy garden and cut the hedges - pity that stopped with the Rent Act!
Mark you, I spend all my days polishing gardens to a far greater degree of tidiness than most and they're full of wildlife.

In my opinion, no, gardening is not overrated. Gardening can become a really interesting and challenging hobby and you never finish learning -the seasons vary from year to year as the climate varies and what grows well one year is rubbish the next. New varieties emerge, the garden matures and for me it is a constant interest. Not just physically doing it but reading websites, reading books, growing plants, eating the veg - endless fun! It is a great excuse to get outdoors, good exercise, and if you grow a few vegetables you can reap the benefits.
Now SOME things are definitely overrated. Dishwashers, for example, and fashion. Travelling by car, the motorways, the Atkins diet, biscuits, cheap chocolate, my job, low-fat food, oh I could go on for ages.
