New Life on Rose cut from garden is this unusual?

  I cut a rose from my garden on the 8th December, took it to the church for feast of Our Lady, and said the rosary in front of the statue of her in the church, but I could not leave it there as it was Advent and there are no flowers left in the church then, so I put it in front of another statue of her in the Sacristy, then left it overnight, .
  Took it home the next day after mass, after a few days the rose was dying so I was about to throw it away when I saw buds growing. So I have kept it in water, and now there are new leaves growing, though no roots as yet. Has this happened to anyone else?
