It seems that Adam Alexander, the producer of the series, is giving a talk on 'Behind the scenes of a year at Kew' at the Brockweir, Hewelsfield and St Briavels garden society on Friday 20th January at the St Briavels Assembly Rooms at 7.30 pm. If anyone who reads these boards is in the area and would like to go attendance for visitors is £2.00. St Briavels is in Gloucestershire, not far from Lydney, or from Chepstow in Monmouthshire.

No idea, just passing on the message in case anyone is interested. I might go as it is only a few miles away. Does he live there one wonders? Have a lover near by? Why the name of sweet compost give a chat on Kew in a village you need a bloodhound to find in January!

I rather think my friends in Stanton - particularly the big fourlegged ones who know their way around Cheltenham - would be far more likely to grab my attention Plocket and I mean up on top in the driving seat not just watching!

I did go to the talk. Adam Alexander has a house in the village and is a keen allotment gardener. He spends his time there when not filming.
It was a talk easy to listen to because he was so enthusiastic (technical hitch meant no slides). He wanted the programme to feature real people doing real things and built up a good relationship with them during the filming. It seems that a female member of his team had a fixation on Jon of the tree gangs 'bum' and spent a lot of time trying to edit this feature into the programme.

There is another series of Kew being produced but by a different producer and possibly scheduled for next year.

Tony Kirkham is presenting a new programme on trees maybe later this year or early next year.

He said seeing the Wallumi(spelling) pine in its natural setting was an experience not to be missed. However, it seems there is a concern that it might be the next Leylandii. It suckers and coppices easily so if planted as a hedge and is allowed to grow unchecked who knows what might happen!?

Personally I could have done with more shots of the Palm House girl in the programme - I'm sure if I was on the tree gang I'd be often in there doing - well, may be not Tarzan impressions anymore but certainly Gorillas in the Mist.
