    Hi all
Acording to reports today.Brit boffins believe they have found the cure for this new strain of bird flue.Have you guessed yet? Yes the humble elderberry
Sambucus niger, they are calling it Sambuscol. They are saying that an extract has been tested on dogs and was 99% effective.I would like to think that the majority of us are a step up from dogs,so in some areas its being taken with a pinch of salt, not the extract the theory.
So should we be changing our diets to include bonio, pal etc to be a bit more compatable to our canine friends. A dog is a mans best friend,as far as this goes lets hope he will be more than that.
    regards woof woof

I made some elderberry wine once and I can't say it did me any good!

Also recently in the running for saving mankind is the humble and much maligned beetroot. Apparently full of anti-oxidants and possible cancer-curing properties in the skin. As soon as someone finds a stain remover that will deal with the juice we will all be eating it. Oh and one of the top reasons people turn up at A&E is because their pee has gone an alarming pink shade after eating beetroot! I heard all this on Richard and Judy (which I accidentally watched) so it must be true.

On the issue of beetroot staining, I don't know if it's the same for clothes, but I've found that the fresh or cooked juice washes off skin easily with soap. It's the pickled juice that seems to be indelible. We eat it roasted and the colour doesn't seem to run on the plate either which is nice.

Dunno about elderberries but there's a thread on A4A about bird flu which says that birds in Asia which have survived had been fed on fermented cabbage which is something that the Koreans and Vietnamese do a lot to preserve their veggies for winter. The humble cabbage is also full of anti-oxidants and other nutritional goodies in its natural state so there's probably no need to head for Germany and empty their shelves of sauerkraut.

If you want to see the thread go to allotmentsforall and look in the Kept Animals board for a thread on chickens and bird flu.

….and Beetroot is one of the best things for rejuvenating the liver. So might be an idea to eat some after consuming Elderberry wine!
