Hi there, i'm new to the message board, thought i'd say a big hello. Been reading some of the messages about the GW presenters thought i'd throw one into the melting pot .. how about matt james from channel 4 city gardener. i think he has a real passion for what he does and may be he may attract the younger generation like myself into the garden. i think he has a real natural passion and a good presenting style .. may be he may not be everyones style, still like to see A.T back, he's still the man
I like Matt James, but I wish he'd learn to speak more coherently! He's full of enthusiasm, has lots of lovely modern ideas, and is generally easy to watch!!
(Thanks for this thread - it makes a change from slagging off Christine, or comparing Rachel to Carol!)
I really enjoy Matt James' programmes but I don't think he's a team player for GW.
We do not need another presenter. I don't actually see why we need a team of presenters. One main one with occasional or even regular guest spots - eg roving reporting from other gardens or nurseries of particular interest - would be so much more coherent and less bitty and flitty than the recent seasons of GW.
I do get the feeling the producers and/or director of GW don't take the subject seriously and think most of us have a two second attention span. I'd like to see one competent, articulate presenter allowed the time to show us properly how, where and what to do at different times of the year and with a wide range of planting conditions and trends covered. Obviously Berryfields can't show us every garden situation found in the British Isles but that's where the roving reporters would come in.
i like the idea of different reporters in different conditions, may be north, south, east and west ?
I agree but rather than gardening in the north, south etc, would like to see gardening in different conditions, dry exposed sites, shaded gardens, clay soil, acidic soil etc. I like matt james but dont think he would be the man for gardeners world and I do think that in terms of design he's a bit of a one trick pony!

I agree Obelixx. The cheerie chappie stuff is cringe making.
Hi Woody...Matt James would make a good assistant for Chris..forgot his name.
And, so thoroughly agree re too many presenters, too blinking costly, licence fee just gone up,
will they never learn.
Well remember one scene where Monty was talking head, with Rachel faffing about in the background and Chris somebody walking in from right to left. You could see it was about the 20th take and still they carried on with the awful choreography.
Gone orf Montegue.
Gone back to Alan. Best ever.
I agree. I like Matt James. He's young and passionate about his subject and he know's what he's talking about. Now that CB is with Channel 4 perhaps they could do a programme together. That would be an interesting combination. MP
As a Matt James fan, with a signed book, I think he is a good presenter because you never get bored! He is very enthusiastic and overall a very good presenter! Well done Matt!
He's the future...him and Christine, with Chris Beardsley in charge.
As a Matt James fan, with a signed book!Ìý

(Sorry - couldn't resist!!!)
The City Gardener by Matt James signed by..um... matt James!
Interesting bits here......... here
