HI
Just watched the Gardeners Year on ´óÏó´«Ã½2
Alan mentioned a very tall grass that grows to 8ft in a single season which could also make a good screen. He did give a name but i cannot recall it now,
Does anyone remember it?
It was not miscanthus zebrinus - much taller and all green
Thanks in anticipation
Hi, Wilroda
Can't recall the name myself, but there is a list of plants Alan recommended on the ´óÏó´«Ã½ gardening website.
Good luck.
Hi wilroda,
He did not say what it was, Bu tit was probably an Arundo Donax, I have a variegated one.

This is just the sort of thing that lets an excellent programme like this down. Alan waxed lyrical about this grass but didn't say what it was, nor did we get a caption (good grief ´óÏó´«Ã½!). I agree with another post, it looked like Arundo donax although I was so incensed that we didn't get labelling that I didn't look closely. I've checked out the programme plant list. Nothing there.
I think it is, Miscanthus gigantea. I've got some in my garden, it started off as 3 stems 2 years ago now is about 100.

I also wondered if it was Miscanthus sacchariflorus which is also thug like, particularly in a damp sunny situation?
He definitely said it was a miscanthus...

Here's a photo of Miscanthus gigantea, had a rerun of AT GY and it looks the same as the one I have (Elephant grass) and the above link.
