So Flora, was the Christine Walkden Special Guest board the first the ´óÏó´«Ã½ have done? And was it a roaring success?

It certainly seems to have boosted Member numbers but we will have to wait and see whether all these new boarders remain with us.

The way I see it, it's a modern version of the good old phone in. Only with this format the special guest can vet all the questions before hand and choose the ones that he/she wants to reply - therefore avoiding any sticky situations.

I for one found it disappointing. I won't be getting over-excited if Monty, Chris, Rachel or whoever grace us with their presence/knowledge. I might post a question next time round, but I won't be hanging around the boards in the vain hope that my question might be answered! Thanks though for the opportunity to ask questions.

It was quite obvious from the replies that there was a lot of 'brown tongue' involved.
Lots of gushing thanks for liking my programme and ask the Beeb for a repeat.
    No serious garden question answers.

Nothing against Christine, she was very enthusiastic and loved her garden but the Beeb created a completely missleading programme and this was not commented upon.

I wonder will future guest slots be a complete let down? Like Plocket I don't think I will hold my breath. My questions posted two days before the event ended up right at the end.

It didn't work for me either. Multiple postings by the same people gushing about how marvellous the programme was - what is the point of that? Even Richard and Judy's questioning seems incisive by comparison. It is neither entertaining nor informative reading for the rest of us who might be genuinely interested in her answers to questions about both gardening and TV presenting. Has she got a book (or hoping for a DVD) to come out soon or am I just being cynical?

After the 10.30pm (when the pressure was off) I think she did in fact answer almost every question; except mine about the ‘smoking lawnmower & screwdriver’ of course. smiley - whistle

I went to Trentham Gardens ooohhh must be more than 10 years ago, we stayed there in my sister's caravan for a couple of days when we went to Alton Towers (ughghh...sends shivers down my back just thinking about caravaning again!). I don't remember seeing real gardens there - what a shame!- but they did have go-karts ( or is there a seperate bit for caravans well away from the gardens?) Oh well we will just have to go again now but WITHOUT the caravan!

Lottie Lady, Trentham Gardens have changed DRAMATICALLY over the last year or so. When I first moved up here about four and a half years ago we went to an antiques fair and the hall was the pits. It's since been demolished and a rather grand garden centre has been built. The gardens have been re-done and are absolutely beautiful. Hang on a mo and I'll find the link.....

Like David Knapper I'm not far from Trentham and visit regularly - I love the Italian Gardens but there's lots more to do there - even a Monkey Forest which I'm avoiding like the plague!

Hi "dooch" (that's duck in a southern accent!) which I gather is the Staffordshire equivalent of Liverpool's "laa" and London's "love"! Trentham is about half an hour from me David, so you never know we could almost be neighbours!!! Do you go to Trentham much? Thanks Plocket, Trentham has certainly changed, you are lucky to live in such a lovely area, We went for a walk in the Peak District while we were there, I can't remember exactly where now, but it was beautiful, we walked along side a stream full of rocks and boulders for miles, it was a bright sunny day when we set out and on the way back the heavens opened - I have never been so wet so quickly! We were also told to try some Bakewell Pudding while we were there but did'nt find anywhere that had it on the menu, have you tried it?

I don't know about Bakewell Pudding Lottie Lady, but I adore Bakewell Tart! The Peak District is absolutely stunning - my mum spent a lot of her childhood in Derby and had holidays romping in the Peaks. We've had a few day trips and I'm blown away by the beauty and ruggedness every time we visit.

Lottie & Plocket, I too like to visit the Peak District when possible.

Not far from Bakewell is a little village called Eyam, it has a fascinating history linked to The Plague in the 1660s - very eerie, but well worth a visit. A Google will reveal all.

Near Cromford there is a rhododendron & azalea nursery with an absolutely stunning display around May.
I'll post some piccies for you if you wish.

I now regret bumping my question and Captain Cabbage's post to the top. We might have had a small but dedicated group of posters who were the first to post and yet remained unanswered!! Ignoring the (friendly) question about her GW career makes me question if her CV is not exaggerating her achievements a tad.

The Friday experience made me a bit cynical, I am afraid (can you tell?). Still, Christine will have made lots of new fans who will all rush out and buy the book and DVD! Hi, Lord Steve

First of all let me apologise for hijacking your question.
Like you, not only was I interested in clarification of this claim to have presented GW, I thought that perhaps the fact that I had knowledge of TV gardening programmes since their onset may have added weight to your request.
