So Flora, was the Christine Walkden Special Guest board the first the ´óÏó´«Ã½ have done? And was it a roaring success?
It certainly seems to have boosted Member numbers but we will have to wait and see whether all these new boarders remain with us.
The way I see it, it's a modern version of the good old phone in. Only with this format the special guest can vet all the questions before hand and choose the ones that he/she wants to reply - therefore avoiding any sticky situations.
I for one found it disappointing. I won't be getting over-excited if Monty, Chris, Rachel or whoever grace us with their presence/knowledge. I might post a question next time round, but I won't be hanging around the boards in the vain hope that my question might be answered! Thanks though for the opportunity to ask questions.
It was quite obvious from the replies that there was a lot of 'brown tongue' involved.
Lots of gushing thanks for liking my programme and ask the Beeb for a repeat.
No serious garden question answers.
Nothing against Christine, she was very enthusiastic and loved her garden but the Beeb created a completely missleading programme and this was not commented upon.
I wonder will future guest slots be a complete let down? Like Plocket I don't think I will hold my breath. My questions posted two days before the event ended up right at the end.

It didn't work for me either. Multiple postings by the same people gushing about how marvellous the programme was - what is the point of that? Even Richard and Judy's questioning seems incisive by comparison. It is neither entertaining nor informative reading for the rest of us who might be genuinely interested in her answers to questions about both gardening and TV presenting. Has she got a book (or hoping for a DVD) to come out soon or am I just being cynical?

AND ONE HAS TO ASSUME THAT AN EXTRA SERVER WAS PUT ON FOR THE SHOW LAST NIGHT! TODAY WE ARE BACK TO THE SAME OLD "BUSY" SERVER THAT IS DEEMED GOOD ENOUGH FOR THE PEOPLE WHO REGULARLY SUPPORT THIS MESSAGE BOARD. AND YES I AM SHOUTING
Well said Rhoda! 400+ plus postings in an hour and not a single server busy msg ???? we dont get service like that do we!
Rhoda
I is a pity that the typing could not be twice as big and then the shouting might be heard by the powers that be. They might even act.
I AM SHOUTING

This posting has been hidden during moderation because it broke the in some way.
After the initial rush at 9pm was over, I thought Christine did quite well in terms of the number of replies she gave.
After the 10.30pm (when the pressure was off) I think she did in fact answer almost every question; except mine about the ‘smoking lawnmower & screwdriver’ of course.
Well she didn't reply to my question!
My question ended up on the last page btw - page 12!!!
Ah! Plocket, praps you didn't ask the right question.
Btw, I suspect we live not a million miles apart. Somewhere in the Stafford/Stone area? Certainly the West Midlands.
Please don't say where!

Never mind Plocket, perhaps Sarah Raven will be the next 'special guest' - I'm sure she will answer your question! ...( Please don't hit me!!! )

I thought it was a bit sad that she seemed to answer questions which had posted most recently or were most positive. My Question(s) also ended up in page 12 (good company - Plocket? )with no reply... very sad!

I think you have to take David Knapper - he's VERY naughty!

I just LOVE Staffordshire. I'm originally from Kent (didn't even know where Staffordshire was ) and thought I would miss it when we moved here. I do miss the coast, and being able to visit Kew Gardens whenever I want, but Staffordshire has so much to offer, and far less people!!!
Can't I take CB instead?.....Ìý If you want a bit of CB Lottie Lady you need to visit Trentham Gardens. I've just found out that he narrates the tour of Trentham's Italian Gardens and next time I go I want to spend £2.50 and listen to his dulcet tones!!!
Hi Plocket,
I went to Trentham Gardens ooohhh must be more than 10 years ago, we stayed there in my sister's caravan for a couple of days when we went to Alton Towers (ughghh...sends shivers down my back just thinking about caravaning again!). I don't remember seeing real gardens there - what a shame!- but they did have go-karts ( or is there a seperate bit for caravans well away from the gardens?) Oh well we will just have to go again now but WITHOUT the caravan!
I think you have to take David Knapper - he's VERY naughty! Ìý
I think he's already there!!!

Plocket, glad you are happy living in sunny Staffs.
I was born where I live now, about 20 miles from Trentham I think.
Perhaps not so many people here in Staffs, but there are pure gold as you can see.
Lottie Lady, Trentham Gardens have changed DRAMATICALLY over the last year or so. When I first moved up here about four and a half years ago we went to an antiques fair and the hall was the pits. It's since been demolished and a rather grand garden centre has been built. The gardens have been re-done and are absolutely beautiful. Hang on a mo and I'll find the link.....
Like David Knapper I'm not far from Trentham and visit regularly - I love the Italian Gardens but there's lots more to do there - even a Monkey Forest which I'm avoiding like the plague!

Hi "dooch" (that's duck in a southern accent!) which I gather is the Staffordshire equivalent of Liverpool's "laa" and London's "love"! Trentham is about half an hour from me David, so you never know we could almost be neighbours!!! Do you go to Trentham much? Hey we might even have seen each other around the place and not even known it!!!
Thanks Plocket, Trentham has certainly changed, you are lucky to live in such a lovely area, We went for a walk in the Peak District while we were there, I can't remember exactly where now, but it was beautiful, we walked along side a stream full of rocks and boulders for miles, it was a bright sunny day when we set out and on the way back the heavens opened - I have never been so wet so quickly! We were also told to try some Bakewell Pudding while we were there but did'nt find anywhere that had it on the menu, have you tried it?

I don't know about Bakewell Pudding Lottie Lady, but I adore Bakewell Tart! The Peak District is absolutely stunning - my mum spent a lot of her childhood in Derby and had holidays romping in the Peaks. We've had a few day trips and I'm blown away by the beauty and ruggedness every time we visit.
Hi again, Plocket. You never know we may live closer than either of us realises.
I thought from your previous messages that we must live in roughly the same area.
Yes, I have visited Trentham quite often, particularly since its revamp. Although I do like the Italian Garden, that damned statue of Perseus spooks me as it did when I was a child.
Lottie & Plocket, I too like to visit the Peak District when possible.
Not far from Bakewell is a little village called Eyam, it has a fascinating history linked to The Plague in the 1660s - very eerie, but well worth a visit. A Google will reveal all.
Near Cromford there is a rhododendron & azalea nursery with an absolutely stunning display around May.
I'll post some piccies for you if you wish.
Yes please David Post the pictures!

Here we go, Lottie. Hope you like them.

Next time you go to the area visit Bakewell, "The Original Bakewell Puding Shop" sells the genuine article. It is quite different from Bakewell tart and is delicious
God Bless

Completely useless. Waste of time. Not her fault, but typical of the powers that be on these types of boards. Won't bother next time.
My question ended up on the last page btw - page 12!!!Ìý
I now regret bumping my question and Captain Cabbage's post to the top. We might have had a small but dedicated group of posters who were the first to post and yet remained unanswered!! Ignoring the (friendly) question about her GW career makes me question if her CV is not exaggerating her achievements a tad.
The Friday experience made me a bit cynical, I am afraid (can you tell?). Still, Christine will have made lots of new fans who will all rush out and buy the book and DVD! (Told you I was in cynical mood)! Still, Friday was just like the show in one respect: lots of hot air and very little substance and gardening advice. Ho hum!

Hi, Lord Steve
First of all let me apologise for hijacking your question.
Like you, not only was I interested in clarification of this claim to have presented GW, I thought that perhaps the fact that I had knowledge of TV gardening programmes since their onset may have added weight to your request.
The reply received was as I expected.
I fully concur with the rest of your observations.
Yes please David Post the pictures!

Hi Lottie
In addition to the promised piccies, I've added a few taken around the DK homestead. However, I think they would be more appropriately posted on the DI board.
I have brought this to the attention of the mods, so you may find them transferred.
David Something very fishy is going on here.... I was looking at your photos and when I went to reply the post was hidden (and I don't think I pushed the wrong button)
Regardless of that, the photos are great, what an amazing nursery! The pots and baskets are lovely too, beautiful fuschias and I do like the water feature and the bunnies! Plocket will be pleased that you slipped a clem photo in too!
Take care
LL x
oops!!! I think you have just explained the 'fishy business!

Morning Lottie, sorry about that. They are in the other place now.
Glad you liked them. That rhododendron nursery is in such a beautiful setting too.
I have plenty of clematis pics but would hate to bore anyone with them.
Glad you appreciated my first attempt at topiary too, it's taken over five years to get ears & a bob-tail.
Lovely photos David - I particularly like the clematis! Have you been to the Dorothy Clive Garden? It's lovely and well worth a visit to see the rhodies and azaleas in the Quarry Garden. I don't think I've got photos on my computer though to show you. I've made a note of the places you suggest visiting though - another nursery - hurrah!!!
Morning Plocket, although I've obviously passed (on the way to Bridgemere) the Dorothy Clive gardens many times, I've never actually visited them, it always seems on my 'to do' list - maybe this spring.
Btw, I think the A51 (Stone/Nantwich) road is a delightful drive.
I can't quite recall the name of that rhododendron nursery, all I know it's only about a mile or so from Cromford.
Thank you for your kind words re my garden pics, I'm just going to add a pic of my favourite clematis 'Niobe' just for you.
Morning David. Oooh thank you - I've often admired Niobe - it has such a lovely lush velvety flower. Can't wait to see your picture.
I agree that the A51 drive is a nice one, especially when not stuck behind a lorry! I can't believe you've not been to the Dorothy Clive gardens - and you a local man! They are quite small but well worth a visit - we try and go a few times a year because they are so lovely. And if you want a whole day out there's Bridgemere up the road for a bit of HRT! (Ohh and they do lovely ice creams at DC too!)
Thank you, Plocket - tis there now together with a hanging basket of 'million bells'.
Ice cream!!! This is not Christine!!
