After reading & hearing that Alan Titchmarsh was getting lambasted over his new series. I thought I would make the effort to write in & congratulate him. I thought it was splendid!!! & will now have withdrawl symptoms tomorrow night as it won't be on.
I thought it was excellent, so did all my friends. To show you what you have to do now to get the effect at a later time, the time lapse photography & handy hints were second to none. So don't listen! You can only please some of the people some of the time!!
Come back Alan, Monty just doesn't have the appeal.

Who's been complaining about it? I thought the series was a real delight from start to finish, and like you will miss it tomorrow night.

Have you seen the book from the series? It is a real treasure! I got a copy about a month ago, and have already referred to it countless times for advice. It is well on it's way to becoming a dog-eared favourite!

I agree with amazingF and Dame W, particularly about the time lapse photography. OH (Head of Lawn Mowing)has watched too many Ground Force 'Instant Garden'-type programmes and seems to imagine that after one trip to the GC I'll have the place looking like Berryfields in an afternoon! The time lapse part of the programme made me feel like leaping up, pointing at the screen and saying "See! See? What have I been telling you all along!?" I didn't though. OH took it all in, even tho he pretended to be engrossed with So Doku at the time.

I'm surprised. I think AT's show is the only one I can remember that has been uniformly praised on these boards. I think the trick that AT has is that he appears to really care about the garden - he's not just doing a presenting job.

I thoroughly enjoyed it too but then I enjoy any gardening programme with AT (with the possible exception of heavily scripted Chelsea coverage) because he has a clear but engaging way of explaining just about anything. I also enjoyed the time lapse photography features, thought the clematis pruning sequences were brilliant and felt very sorry for the starved hanging basket.

I didn't see all of this series but what I did see was very enjoyable, informative and educational. I am looking forward to seeing the repeats of the series which will probably be shown on a sky channel.

I thought it was a rather excellent whistle stop tour for new gardeners, it captured interest - now you can find out more. Plus the book supports the series so well - well done alan for keeping the approach to gardening programmes fresh!

I totally agree with Rhoda, if AT's series has been lambasted, it is certainly not on these boards!! In my opinion his recent series on How to be a Gardener and the recent Gardener's Year have been really well made and a joy to watch. A classic sign is that the half hour seems to fly by and I am disappointed that another episode is over for another week. I have just started to read the book of the series and think it will become a real favourite, just as Dame Wombat says.

My two year old daughter loves AT too although she is sometimes a bit confused when he in person comes on rather than the little white-bearded gnome she was expecting. (Gordon is back on ´óÏó´«Ã½2 in the mornings, 9.20-9.40, weekdays.) Sophie will sit and watch repeats of Ground Force etc on UKTV just to hear his voice and after a tantrum it's just the job to calm her down. I'm almost tempted the take her to GW Live and see how fast she flings herself at him!! (ho ho)

I thoroughly enjoyed the series, Alan can't do any wrong in my eyes. I have encouraged my son & partner to watch HBAG as they are about to tackle their garden, (never lifted a spade before!). I suppose we have to wait till end of March now for more GW. Thank goodness for the re-runs on Sky!
