I know what you mean, but luckily I have Sky and watched Gardening from Scratch for the first time. Very useful for me as I want to know more about container gardening.

You'd be very welcome if you could pop round and help me write all these plant labels! It's bit weird though isn't it? A bit like having a power cut. We have to make my own horticultural entertainment - Luckily I've gots lots of prep to do in my garage tonight!

Not into writing labels yet as it is a new garden and we are still reconstructing it from the previous owners who had let it get very overgrown. Planning to create a new veg plot hence chopping down the conifers.

I managed to get out and do some work, the weather in London has been very sunny so with a south facing garden was able to tidy up a bit. Did bring some Lavenders out of the shed to bake in the hot sun but they are now safely back as the temperature is going to be -4 tonight.
It's tempting when the sun is out to do some planting but I know that would be stupid until at least we are well into March.

Hi mizztuppance it was sunny up here in Lancashire today but definately not hot. In fact the frost remained on some of the garden all day.. Like you I am desperate to start planting and because it is a new garden to us I can indulge mysely and have already bought lots more shrubs which I am dying to plant out.

I have some lavenders to plant out but they are too small to chance putting them in the ground. I ordered some wildflowers last year and lost a lot of them even though I had them in the shed for protection. Small (baby) plants will not survive freezing temps, even our native plants. It's frustrating having to wait but I have been keeping myself occupied by reading up on all my old GW mags, found a great article by Monty Don and Alan Titchmarch on wildflower gardening, very inspirational. Will order some wildflowers in March. smiley - biggrin

I'm just going to have to watch AT on sky+ that I taped over the last few weeks, I always fall asleep half way through so should be able to catch some bits I missed.

I'm very excited got a JCB coming to clear some ground at 9am tomorrow (Sat). Its an area 40'x20' that is overgrown and very uneven, previous occupants had started a rockery (I think) but its fallen apart over many years before we got here. I've tried several times to sort it by hand but even after hours of work only seem to shift a few rocks, then the children helpfully put them back when I go in for a cup of tea...
So hopefully it can be done in one go and I can start on the 'dining area', which hopefully will be enclosed in reinforcing steel mesh, with a jungle theme..

    Hmmmmmm,

I will swop my cup of tea, for a glass of wine then. To get in the mood!
Why is there only a smiley for ale? I feel a bit lost this evening without the gardening programs.
I could however plant my sweet pea seeds. I've put them on a damp kitchen paper last sunday, covered with plastic.
The internet told me they would produce little roots like this.
Well, I re-wetted the paper 2 times already. Only 1 seed produced a tiny root! I think I will plant them the way they are. I'm sure they will be fine. smiley - smiley

Actually, we have 9 at the momment, + most weekends we have an additional 1 or 2 boyfriends and girlfriends, then the MOL usually pops in, + in the summer we have a small swimming pool, so we can have up to another 8 or 9 extra, oh + 4 extra from the neighbours children, for one of the days...so all in all we can be quite busy.
Last year we had 11 (8+3(fosters))

Whaw supermum, think your kids are having a great time!

YES, it is my nostalgia evening, so a lot of memories ...
When I was a teenager, I always went to my friend. They had 7 children, but most of the time a lot more. It was big fun.
I'm still friends with most of these 7 (now middle aged) children. And although their parents passed away a few years ago and some of them live abroad, they still have this wonderful bond!

Luckily all the children go to school...bliss...well except 1 who hopefully if the LEA, and school get their finger out might finally be in school after waiting 3 1/2 months..apparantly they didn't have enough info...we were pulling our hair out, it is so unfair.

So I usually have from 9-3 to fit in the gardening and shopping, cleaning, meetings and courses etc etc. Although with all the running around sometimes I don't get anything done in the garden for days, so I have booked tomorrow off with the family..suppose it will last till they need breakfast.

I live in a little city beween Brussels and Ghent in Belgium.
We don't have any gardening programs at all on our TV channels. I suppose that is why we watch ´óÏó´«Ã½ on Fridays.

But i follow more programs on ´óÏó´«Ã½; I like the ones on thursday as well. Now it is again about the ancestors of famous people. I suppose this is why I'm so nostalgic today. (on other threads I've been telling about my grandmother and about my uncles, the pigeon fanciers!) I also liked the series about people restoring their houses. And one of my favourite programs was on sunday evenings " Coast"; You have such a wonderful country!
I also liked " a picture of Britain", especially the episode with the music of Elgar and Ralph Vaughan Williams. (yep Nostalgic Again!) smiley - star

    Well, today it was OK.
It freezes a bit at night. Oh yes, almost forgot. This morning, while I was in the traffic jam,it was snowing for a while.
It has been cold for a long while, freezing during the day even. Nothing happening in the garden.

This week I was all over the Benelux ( I travel a lot for work), and I had all kinds of weather : sunny, rain showers, and then the next day again 20 cm of snow (in The Ardennen = south east of the country where we have some hills). The ski facilities will be opened for the weekend I heard.

For the weekend it will be dry and cold. I would love to buy a Whitch Hazel and some Helleborusses, but I don't think I can plant them now, with the frost.

Do you have any plans for the W.E.? Will you be able to plant your shrubs??

Anneliesje - When we moved house last Spring I brought about 100 plants and shrubs with us which I had dug up from my other garden . This garden is so huge and was so neglected that I am continually able to buy things and because we need so many I look for bargains and usually buy smaller things and grow them on. At the moment I have several small conlfers, spotted laurel, bamboo, and a few other evergreens all waiting to be planted. But it is too cold and so they will have to wait. I noticed today that my hellebore nigre which is in a pot is just starting to flower.

My OH has arrived. But I wonder, I know OH is husband, but what does it stand for Old Husband? Odd Husband, Other Husband?? I'm really curious!
