Since coming first to these boards a couple of weeks ago, I have become quite addicted to them ( when it is wet or dark and I cannot garden )
I have noticed that there have not been many new threads posted, nor in fact, too many new replies.
This begs the question _what are you all doing that is so much more interesting ???
Will the correspondence pick up when Spring has sprung properly ???

I think you'll find that the majority of people only post when they have something to say. Gardeners tend to do more thinking than talking - with the notable exception of my wife.
FoP
It goes in fits and starts. Some times there are loads of new messages and at other times, no-one has much to say. I also think a fair few people have defected to other forums (or is it fora ?!) after the beeb changed their format.
You'll probably find the boards tail off a bit in the Spring and Summer. The lighter evenings mean more people are out in their gardens not stuck in front of a computer screen !!
I agree that the boards are addictive though. When I first started contributing, I only asked a question about compost over on Garden Clinic and from the replies, I just got more and more hooked !
Cheers
Andy
Maybe it's because this is the TV board and the gardening shows have finished for a while, plenty of action on the other boards though!
I go to other forums - much more fun than staying here all the time. Why don't you try www.growfruitandveg.co.uk or www.rivercottage.net
Lesley, do you work for www.growfruitandveg.co.uk or are you just a big fan of the site & mag?

I agree with you - they are addictive, and lovely when you have a specific problem, just go on here and there are plenty of people to help you! I must admit I do drop out from time to time and not check or post - usually in winter when I don't do gardening (I think I should change my name to "fair weather gardener"!) I find this an easy site to use (even with the server issues).
I have noticed that there have not been many new threads postedÂ
I must admit I am getting lazy these days, tending to hit the my discussions button too often, and not getting involved in new threads as much as I should. I suspect a lot of others are too, especially since the threads are now listed in order of the latest addition - some quite old ones are getting constantly recycled!
Could we not have some indication on the thread list as to when each thread was started?

I think the server problems have a lot to do with the quiet state of the boards lately. We are all still here, but it is getting harder and harder to say anything. I think I'm doing well if I can just manage to read everyone else's posts.
Hi Fuschia.....am daytime only, and conversations seem to build up in the evenings, so means a trawl thru fifty or sixty messages to get the gist
on some conversations.
Do also downsizer and self sufficiency sites and lately moneysaving(s)expert site or it might me without the 's', anyway look for Martin Lewis, an ex beeb reporter..more posts than you can keep up with, in the top 3500 in the WORLD.
And, Freecycle, literally give goods away and accept goods just for the cost of picking them up.
Started computer in Dec 02, then google gardening forum, then this site, then A4A, and others occasionally.Agree discussion groups can be addictive. You gotta give it to Dan the Mod on the A4A site, he's built up a business from refugees ex this site. For example I wrote to the mods here asking how to reduce the Discussion history in my Inbox....Not a Word.
Nice to talk.
Hi all. I pop in every day but don't always find discussions I want to join in or feel qualified to answer. It can also be frustrating with the Server blocking at peak times. I pop into A4A most days but that's a much bigger community and its garden conundrums aren't often relevant to mine.
Even though I can't do anything in my garden in winter - except feed the birds - I still like to keep up with what people are doing on here and have picked up a few good tips and ideas and, I hope, have contributed some too.
I have now got the technology sussed and have posted some photos on the design board.

Lottie Lady I could give you a list of sites a mile long (well almost!) that I love visiting but those are my top 2.

Thanks - I already visit River Cottage but the Grow Your Own is a useful looking new site for me! I also like Downsizer on
(Anything else that doesn't involve Christine, Alan et al would be a relief for a while too).
Treaclepuss - what a wonderful nickname! Why, where, what????

I'm the proud owner of a Treacle-coloured Tortoiseshell cat! Dark brown and interesting..... hobbies include ornithology, exploration and basking.
Ah! We have 3 felines - Number 1 is a very handsome black and white long-haired male with one foreleg missing since he lost an argument with a car last year. No 2 is a very long-haired tabby female we call the head-case because she is insanely jealous of the kitten we adopted when he was abandoned here 15 months ago when she was only 15 months old herself. No 3 is the basket case - he is scared witless by No 2 after being attacked so regularly for so long but is now bigger than she is so occasionally brave enough to swipe at her tail from underneath a piece of furniture. He is tabby and white and short-haired and hardly ever goes out in case the head-case is lurking.
They are all keen but hopeless ornithologists and very good mousers and occasionally catch moles too. Clever pussies.
Hello Fuschia, I use only this board and check it about three times a week. I read most of the messages, if they relate to gardening, I don't read the 'personality' msgs as I'm not the slightest bit interested in any of them. I watch most of their programmes though! I enjoy this board because there always seems to be someone out there who can help and give tips and I've learnt lots of handy things from the replies. Sometimes the replies prompt me to be getting on with a particular garden job too. Like Obelix, I don't always feel knowledgable enough to contribute a reply .. yet find myself nodding in agreement or tut tuttin! Like most of us here, I'd rather be gardening than sitting at a computer.
Hi Treacle...This is Bubbles in the neighbours garden.
[IMG]/IMG]
Wants feeding every hour...
Great picture, Ken-69 and wonderful descriptions, Obelix, thank you.
The original thread title asking what are we all doing, I'll bet felines would figure high up the list. I couldn't garden without one in tow, certainly - they add a different dimension.
Hi Treaclepuss and anyoone else who cares to - How about adding some photos of your garden to the gallery on the Design boards?
Then we can see what everyone's doing.
Myself desperate to get out into the garden proper. Currently have the dull task (but rewarding)of sowing seeds, pricking out and keeping the whole lot balanced on windowsills until spring finally joins us when I can plant out. Currently have some Agastache Anisata in a propagator in front of me which whilst germinated well is struggling to get above the vermiculite!
If I remember last year well you will find that as always Friday evenings will be busy on the boards and then as we are all able to spend more time outside, postings will be slightly reduced and generally be less bitchy!
RG - ever heard the phrase 'least said soonest mended?' Just read through the '1980' thread and then hopped to here, co-incidentally. Now, I always assume the best in people, and presuming you really would like to be thought of as a friendly bloke who people are happy to chat with on here, it would honestly be much better idea to go quiet on the personal stuff and just talk about gardening for a bit. Just a thought..

What am I supposed to impose some sort of self exile on myself from the board in order to reduce some offence I inadvertantly caused to one member whom I have already apologised to... Once again I am sorry but I think my supposed misdemeanours should be contained to one thread not dragged around with every other relevant post I make in others...
Don't go away. Just don't go on. This is not the place for sill quarrels or petty squabbles.
Nor is it a private place so you have to expect not to agree with or like everyone else's postings. Best to ignore them or treat with humour if you really must respond.
Welcome to the new Gardening Board. If this is your first time, then make sure you check out the
