I know Rosemary and Thyme is ITV but originally I thouht it was such a good idea to have a drama based on gardening. Storylines have been weak.

Wouldn't it be great to have more gardening featured in dramas? What storylines would everyone have? Has anyone read AT's fiction? Are they worth filming?

Haven't seen Rosemary & Thyme so won't comment but have read a couple of AT's books, well, what I would call light reading and wouldn't really make good dramas, more soapy stuff. Not really my cup of tea.

R and T is very weak really.
AT's books would not have beenpublished were he not a famous name.
I read some good detective fiction about someone who owned a garden centre - they were good ( I think they may have been by Natasha Cooper but am not sure )

I've only watched one episode of Rosemary & Thyme and found it rather disappointing. I've not bothered to watch more put it that way! However I was thrilled to see both Baddersley Clinton and Packwood briefly shown on the recent Elizabeth series the ´óÏó´«Ã½ were showing on Sundays. Shame they didn't show more but at least I recognised them both!

I watch Rosemary & Thyme but it is ridiculous when you see the garden before and then a week later it looks like Kew Garedens.

    Hi PP,
What about a gardening soap opera? We certainly seem to have been having some issues on these boards recently. The writers only need to ask here. What I mean by that is that even though these are gardening MB's we are real people who talk to each other with real lives which arn't always peachy or, conversely, they are great and we want to share with our virtual friends. Too many times people have been knocked for sharing their personal lives and I think this is a real shame. If people don't have the generosity to care, don't be nasty, just don't reply. (O.K, I know, I have mixed my threads but some of you will know what I mean).
Rosemary and thyme is (I have to say) truly awful, I watched one programme when it was based in a town near us and that was quite enough!

They give R & T as well in Belgium on a very small channel. Awful! Once and never again.

Before we had on tuesdays Brother Cadfael, there are better series, but he had a nice herb garden.

And sometimes we have on saturdays Midsommer Murders, also with very nice gardens in it. Although the garden is never a main character (although I remember 1 episode where it was) you see quite a lot of them.

I love your idea of a garden soap opera Skarloey smiley - star. In Belgium we have all the time reality TV, " The way Life Is " and then the subject. Could be about gardening too!

Rosemary & Thyme could be so good but the storylines are ludicrous, I only watch it for the garden scenery and hopefully see a butterfly flutter by!!
My first encounter with the annual Morning Glory ‘Heavenly Blue’ was when it was featured in a kidnapping storyline in Ruth Rendell’s Inspector Wexford, years ago. Since then I have grown it every year. Midsomer Murders is also very good at showing the wonderful English countryside especially when they film in the summer. They did a scene in a garden that had lots of Cosmos planted and again from watching it I decided to plant them in my garden, they make excellent fillers when some of the early flowering perennials have finished. Yes, watching these programmes can certainly have an influence on me!

Thanks everyone. In reply to various of these.

Bit difficult to make a drama out of a message board visually but we seem to manage it!

This series one episode did show a bit of Kew.

I suppose we just have to lobby for more shots of beautiful gardens.
