Spring is fast approaching and I'm determined to make the time to vist some gardens this year. Just wondered if there are any (apart from the obvious ones) that you could recommend?
You don't mention which region you are from but i think that it is really important that everyone supports the NGS (national gardens open scheme) or otherwise known as the yellow book gardens.
There will be dozens open in your area and the standards are superb and you can pinch some really good ideas for your own garden. Even better than that - if you see a plant you like, you know it should probably grow in your own garden if it is local to the open garden and you may even be able to take a cutting for a small donation.
What could be better?
Cheers for that I'm based in Essex but quite happy to travel about, I actually joined a tour of gardens open for charity back in the summer and it was quite good, got to chat to loads of passionate people about their plots etc.
Savill and Valley Gardens, Windsor Great Park, Berkshire. Possibly the best garden in the country, Rhododendrons, Camellias, Magnolias flower within a huge wealth of plants from around the world. Also if you choose the right day you can watch the ‘hoi polloi’ slug it out on some poor polo pony on Smiths Lawn!
This website should give you some clues
Have fun. You've got the rest of your life to get round them all.
Thanks for the link, looks interesting. I graduate from uni this summer and funds permitting might give myself a bit of free time to see as many as possible.
