Long term crop , so very clean land is needed, definately no pernicous weeds like dandelion and so on.Incorporate bonemeal and some water retaining materials, heap it up slightly, plant 6" deep and a foot apart.
Any annual weeds clear by hand, perennial weeds by spot weedkiller.
A pain in the ass otherwise, hardly worth the effort.
P.s. Japanese Knotweed shoots taste the same.

On your P.S. Ken - there must be something seriously amiss with your palate! Though I've always thought it one of life's deep mysteries that eating Asparagus or Corned Beef makes one's pee smell the same!!! Or may be that's just me.

If only we learnt to eat the weeds, there wouldn't be any weeds. smiley - biggrin
Did once melt the fat out of a tin of Corned Beef.
Then dissolved out the salt, dried it and
enough left for just one sandwich.
