Well, for me, this is fantastic news.

Good. Well, I hope he now feels he has the authority to stamp the programme with a proper gardener's style - lots of posts all over this board about what we want to see - and not keep filling it with the stuff we all complain about so much - ditto posts.
And I hope he has a word in the camera man's ear about focusing on the plant or task in hand so we can see how clever they are and not how fancy the photography technique is and also with the editor and producer about proper plant names on screen.

Absolutely brilliant!!! This has made my day. I'm so looking forward to seeing his new series "Around the World in 80 Gardens" as well but I don't think that will be for some time yet.

Hi
as we get "told off" for dissing certain presenters and are told that we will upset them as they read these boards - can we hope that Monty actually DOES read our comments, and liaises with the production team to incorporate some of our ideas in the programmes.
Probably too much to ask though and we'll get the same smug, patronising, self promoting style that we know and love !!!

I read it with disbelief. Two more years of monty on GW.
I thought that Monty was really natural and informative on fork to fork and real gardens but he has developed an arrogance since joining GW.
I think that a main presenter introducing a range of respected horticulturists, amateur enthusiasts, nurserymen etc would be far more productive.
I would certainly enjoy a show with Carol klein, Pippa greenwood, Rachel dethame and Chris beardshaw informing the nation.
I also hope that the bbc pay tribute to geoff hamilton this year before i really lose all confidence in the bbc.

I knew he wouldn't let us down. Yoh Monty!!!
My MD passion started when he was on GQT many years ago... when asked about where to position a bed of heathers, he answered,
"The only place heather looks good is... on a moor."
This was before I'd seen him on TV, so it's not his physical attractiveness (although that helps ).

Monty would have been mad to leave. He has yet, I feel, to bring leave his personal stamp on the Berryfields garden or GW. He has all the warmth and on-camera appeal that Alan Titchmarsh has and a great voice but it would be premature to leave so early (I reckon the ´óÏó´«Ã½ press office left us all wondering as a nice little publicity ploy). But Monty, there is a lot of good will towards you. Most of us are saying we want more of your personal gardening ideas and styles. We want the show to be more personal.

I just don't get this MD and 'arrogance' thing at all. Maybe because his stylishness and classy act puts all the rest of the rather humdrum and boring presenters in the shade (with the exceptions of AT and SR). Also, every single person, professional growers and amateurs alike, I've talked to who've met him, have had nothing but praise for his helpful and approachable manner. Stop knocking the man!

Happily, he's probably far too busy with his filming committments, opening allotments and other charity events and trying to fit in the time to do his own garden to read sad, bitter comments like yours. That said, the rain has stopped, so I'm going out to put my spuds in.

I'm sure he's lovely - but he does come across as if he's doing the viewer a favour by imparting his knowledge to you. He can be quite opinionated in a preachy / patronising way and his affected voice can seem condescending to some.
Two more years of him might be more than mortal flesh can bear - so let's hope that the others get to play bigger parts and that the ´óÏó´«Ã½ have a rethink and beg CB to come back and save the day!

I really don't mind who presents the programme as long as it's informative. The cult of celebrity can go too far. All of the gardeners have a different style, from the chatty to the teacher-like. A bit like the rest of us, actually!!!!

Good news, tho there is more to Monty than meets the eye.
According to his books, he was unemployable for quite a while, depressed and on a real downward slope.
Yet , unlike Geoff H and Titch , he came from a non gardening background to host a premier garden television show.
He has carried the show on personality and presentational skills alone, alongside really qualified people like Chris and Joe and so on.
He's wasted doing garden programmes, he should be teaching viewers how to sell and present themselves.

Whats all this about the Presenter stamping his style on the Show??.......as a presenter perhaps!!.....but this is precisely what is going wrong with Tv programmes.......Presenters are deciding what we shall see.....
....and what we see as a result is what suits the presenter. This is a recipe for mediocrity and pretentiousness

Monty has a good brain and writes eloquently and knowledgeably about gardening and plants. He also has deeply held values about the environment and teaching gardening and its pleasures to everyone including the less fortunate or less able as a means of improving their lives and environment.
I wanted him to stamp this aspect of his character on GW to make it a serious, well-presented informative and entertaining progarmme to inspire gardeners from old hands to novices. Too much TV and also GW of late is about short term instant gratification and fancy camera work and intrusive "background" music. GW should and can do better than this by focussing editorial content and camera work on the plant, technique or garden in question. There is too much emphasis on fancy camera technique and the presenter's face instead of the world of gardeners and gardening.
That is what I meant by stamping his mark on the programme since recent editing and/or production teams seem to be leading us down the celebrity cult path instead.

I like Monty, he enjoys using his garden productively and inspires me to get more out of mine than pretty beds and borders. But then I like everyone!
I'm not one to knock anyone who is passionate about plants, but I think Carol would make a good childrens tv presenter.....bit OTT for me! (Sorry Carol)

I like Monty too and now that Carol has grown on me through GQT, I like all the other presenters too. I thinks it's a great programme, and obviously not everything appeals to me but it's always very watchable. Anyone who doesn't like it or the presenters, why do you waste your time watching it and discussing it? Read your favourite gardening book instead. Life's too short.
