I'm a self-confessed misearable whinger, but I give credit where credit is due. Some of the issues many of you lot remarked upon seem to have been picked up on tonight's GW. In no particular order....

    1. "Can we have an hour long programme?" - It was and was better for it.

    2. "Plant labels on screen" - They made a return.

    3. "Inappropriately loud music" - on the Aster and Chili slots they changed the "pitch" of the music compared to their screening last year. Making it less annoying (only slightly less in the Aster scene).

    4. "Sheds of money" - Not a penny spent tonight. I have a watching brief on this one...

    5. "Inappropriate smaller gardens - NOT the Jungle garden again!" - A shadey average sized back garden (Monty), a gardener's garden on the cheap using recycling methods (Carol) and a small family garden (Joe). Sounds good on paper at least.

    and finally for now..

    6. "Black bin vs silver bin spud trials" - Personally I liked Monty's confession on this one (black bins warm up easier, so giving a better crop). I wish them well with the chitting trials, but if there is to be reality, then the main crop has to be hit by blight....

Looks like I might have to tune in again next week smiley - biggrin

I thought it absolutely excellent tonight and there was even mention of hanging baskets, yippee. Also couldn't believe all that information, so much to take in, it needs a repeat showing mid week!! A very promising start indeed!!

I thought GW was great last night. Loads of enthusiasm, looking forward to the 3 gardens evolving. An hour was just right, so if something is not your cup of tea, there is bound to be something else that is. And, I liked all the presenters, although an occasional guest gardener would be nice. It is a lovely time of year.

Snap. Like yourself I thought it was a very encouraging start to the gardening season. I like the idea of the 3 separate gardens being developed during the year - should be interesting, and more relevant to the ordinary gardener. I even thought the 'chemistry' between the presenters was better than I recall it last year. I think Joe might just justify his place this year. If only we could get Carol to stop placing such emphasis on her every adjective. Displaying passion is one thing, but delivering her descriptions out of a canon is not really necessary. Monty looked very relaxed last night, and I really do think he's 'arrived'. Already looking forward to next week.

Yes, a splendid programme, a whole hour for the next 3 weeks... smiley - bubbly

I hope they don't try too hard to please everyone in this series, remember the awful Jungle Garden was the viewers' choice (and didn't it look a mess?) Call me old fashioned, but I garden in Europe and I want my garden to look 'European' — that is another possibility — 'a native garden'?

I'm even warming to Carole slightly, but I'd love her to stop the over-projecting (as actors say) and maybe dye her hair a different colour, (green?) It really clashes with the plants she's showing off.

I was surprised to see that they did seem to address several of the issues raised by posters, they confessed the potoato trial had its faults i didn't notice the background music (although this never bothered me) they are producing a garden on the cheap, and I think each presenter having their own space might make the programme seem less dissjointed as each presenter will have an area in which to express their style.

I watched the prog last night and was really happy with it. Another hour long programme next week...fab. The enjoyment was enhanced by the knowledge that all over the country (and Europe!) MB chums were tuning in too. Flipping marvelous...

It was indeed a very enjoyable programme. I loved every minute and OH even watched some of it. One question though - haven't we already seen Carol showing us how to pollinate hellebores? I'm not complaining but I don't think it's de j'a vous!

Yes, very enjoyable and they do appear to have listened!

It does appear that Berryfields is becoming a series of show gardens and special projects for the sake of TV, with little thought for the overall coherancy, but hey, we can't have it both ways!

One complaint - where was Rachel! (and please don't start the tedious RdeT vs SR debate!)

I didn't fall asleep so I think it must have been brilliant !!!!

I'd like as a viewer to go along at the end of the 3 trial gardens and make my own comments especially on Joe's planting ---I'll never forgive him.....Pity Sarah isn't doing one too---I could comment on her predictable plants !!!!

I think they have listened to what we have asked for, 3 visits in one episode.....If we can all encourage everybody to watch the 1 hr episodes, and then not bother with the 1/2hr ones, they might make them all 1 hour.....

I enjoyed the programme too, a fantastic beginning to the year - relaxed, informative, inspiring, escapist. I am definitely going to do battle with the birds nest of a honeysuckle by the back door now. The growing season has really started and enthusiasm and energy levels are on the up!

Yes, so where is the repeat? Often used to be repeated on a Sunday. I missed it , recorded the wrong channel (not unusual) and now can't get it on the net either. Also wonder why it can't start a week or two earlier. I don't stop gardening in the winter. And while I'm whinging the so called 'specials' in the winter are no palliative when they are simply repeats!

Hi Sarah, saw you on the repeats on UK style the other day again. I really enjoyed the hour too - could not believe when MD said it was up, was really settling into it and it only seemed 1/2 hour to me! Yes, hellebores have been done before (but it all has at some point) and they are very popular plants. Great to see my tulips are marginally futher on then theirs (I am further south) and really looking forward to all the veg - my purple brussle sprouts were poor last year, but chuffed with my leeks so started them from seed this year.

It is really wonderful having the hour. Although the new gardens look like the plots on competition sites, I hope the owners will enjoy the garden. I really think MD appeared more settled this week and I enjoyed him. Carol seemed calmer too and I am really looking forward to her garden. Oh, for spring and my Friday nights with GW again! hifi

ps - assume RdT is still off on Mat leave and just heard on GQT today that CB may have just had parental leave - baby girl

    Hi Hi Fi

I'd heard the programme(s)? had been repeated again -someone mentioned it at the new school I'm working in part-time, the other day. Didn't see it myself, but still get the 'don't I know you from somewhere?' funny looks. I thought it would be most likely to have been on the Gardening channel ( which we do not have) but you think it is UK style?

Yes the new programme was a delight, may there be many more Friday nights like it. Honeysuckle still a birds nest cos it's been windy and wet and horrible. One more week to go, if I can stay vertical, trying to do three jobs currently, all a bit taxing, and what with concerts, ours and the children's and music exams it's got a bit mad. In fact it's a relief if I'm honest, that the year has been slow weather-wise, otherwise I'd be in a right pickle. I just keep saying to myself What you lose at the beginning you gain at the end (of the season)" - bit of advice from one wiser than me - so trying not to panic!

A good start to the new series.........
I particularly enjoyed the veggie bits, especially as I have just taken on an allotment and would greatly appreciate that being a regular feature.
Wasn't fussed about the Chillies - but I guess somebody else was pleased with it.
Glad it was an hour - believe it always should be.
Like the idea of the 3 gardens, and just hope that none of them will be a jungle one.
So all in all a promising start.
