Carol and Helleborous last week reminded me of my attempt at growing them. They were featured in a Gardeners World programme and eventually I found some Thompson and Morgan seeds. Spilt them into four One lot was sown in a pot and planted in garden, second put in a cold frame, third in a pot in shed-cum- greenhouse and the fourth into an incubator. Germination the packet told me was slow, upto 18 months. Three years on I have given up - not a glimmer of life.Well there is always tomorrow!
The seeds were probably dead to begin with. Hellebore seeds really need to be sown fresh for any good germination to take place. Cultivate the friendship of a gardener with a selectiona and in a few months time when the seeds are ripe, beg a handful and sow immediately.

I've been buying one really nice plant each year for some years. Now I have some lovely hybrids all of which have sown themselves so it was well worth the original expense.
