Beechgrove G. is starting tomorrow in Scotland and should be available on Iplayer. Can't wait.
I've already got my sky box and recorder set up - I don't intend missing this brilliant series!
The only trouble is that when I get rid of Sky next month, I'll be on Freesat and I don't think I'll be able to get ´óÏó´«Ã½ Scotland then
I don't like tokeep hearing about a good programme that I can't get
Whoopeeeeeeeeeeeee........
Now if I had a tardis and could go back, or is it forward, 3 weeks then the tips would be just right for us down here in the South.
Can't wait for BG return.
Where is Amazing or is she on holidays???
Probably still snowed in
dwarfbean
Probably still snowed in Â
Now thats not a pretty picture
She'll be around, I'm sure.
I'll give her a shout shall I?
Hi JacquiB, I watch Beechgrove on Freesat. It's on channel 970 at 7pm tonight (Wednesday). The first of 24 programmes according to the schedule.

I'm on Freesat, and ´óÏó´«Ã½2 Scotland is on Sky channel 990 with me, so you may need to check in advance.
Doggone it, missed it didn't I. I was preparing dinner and His Nibs was watching 'the one show'. I will watch on iplayer.
ps haven't had snow in the town for a while but there is still some on the Lammermuirs. Little set of hills to the south for those who don't know.
Thanks for missing me everyone.
Silly me, I think my head is up my backside. When I looked on here it was just after 12 last night and of course I thought it was today, so today would have been yesterday, if you get my meaning.
I will watch tonight, hope I can watch online as His Nibs will be watching thon Christine and Adrian on one.
There she is!!!
Silly me......Â
obviously the hypothermia in the snow has frozen a few marbles!!.
Suggest a couple of wee drams for OH before 7pm then you can enjoy BG before you wake him up. don't tell him I told you.
I've got a brain ache just trying to work out what she's going on about!
What day is it today Amazing?
Yes, do check but I think you'll find that Freesat and Sky are two different service providers.
You are probably confusing the Sky freesat, which is what we used to have before Freesat. If you look in Radio Times it tells you which number the freesat channels are. For example ´óÏó´«Ã½ HD is Freesat 108 but Sky 143.
Jacqui will be able to find ´óÏó´«Ã½ Scotland, I'm sure in her on-screen guide.
Sue
Am fair seeck, cannae watch Beechgrove live as it is a scottish prog. Ah wiel, it will be 'the one show' then dinner then maybe iplayer. But of course it is repeated on Sundays?? So no iplayer till after that. Och I'm gonne have a drink.
Right folks I have now watched it on iplayer. Wasn't it good.
I don't like to keep hearing about a good programme that I can't getÂ
But you can get it Sparkly. It's on iplayer, but as they no longer list ´óÏó´«Ã½ Scotland you have to go to the A-Z to find it.
Thanks for all the messages about Freesat etc, I'll have a look
Thanks goodness the 'Beechgrove' is back with us. A bit sad that they've started the new year in the middle of a blizzard. Nevertheless, they still dished up something more relevant than even the new 'improved' GW has yet achieved. The poor weather gave them a chance to toddle around the garden giving us glimpse of what survived the harsh winter, what clearly didn't survive, and what should be left for a little while yet before deciding on the coup de grace. Jim visited Cawder Castle when it was in the grip of snowy winter, and even this bleak garden was interesting. Poor Jim would seem positively geriatric if parachuted into GW, and yet he carries a lifetime of success and failure around with him that I can certainly relate to. He's seen it all before, and doesn't need any gimmicks to broaden his appeal. The rest of the team work well together, and they all make fine contributions to the programme. This programme has now taken over as my only 'must see' gardening programme, and I just hope that it continues throughout the year as it's started.
Had my 'fix' yesterday. Interesting that it's now listed on beeb main gardening page i-player section...J.
never heard of the programme until tonight, thanks for the tip...just watched it on iplayer...excellent! proper gardening!
I am going to go against the grain - is it because the grass is always greener that people rate this. Not half as informative as GW, and very parochial - Rab C Nesbitt does gardening...
Watched it on iPlayer last night and wow, what a lot they pack in to half an hour! I'd forgotten how good it was. I wish you could set iPlayer to download a programme automatically every week, then I'd never miss an episode!
Not half as informative as GW, and very parochial - Rab C Nesbitt does gardening...Â
I don't know whether you've judged the programme on last week's effort, John, or whether you've actually given it a 'fair go'. I've always found it to be very informative - though like many other programmes, they depend on the good old on-line 'Fact Sheet' to confirm all that's been said. In my case, it's certainly not a 'grass is greener' thing - it's simply that I can relate better to the subject matter. I also think the chemistry between the presenters is far better than with GW (currently), and it's good to see the girls having a genuine giggle on occasions.
Jim McColl does tend to stick to the local vernacular, but that leads to the charm for many of us. However, this is offset by the fact that his two female colleagues are clearly English. We locals don't mind this in the slightest (as long they don't come with an 'Alys' accent), and we now regard them as our own. Persevere John - we'll win you over yet.
I'm fairly new to these boards, and have noticed talk of Beechgrove, just had a look at their website, the presenter look intresting and we now have a lovely new laptop, so i'm going to watch it on iplayer (if I can get it off hubby)
It seems that you all think its superior to GW, is it more for experienced gardeners? although i've had a garden for a good few years now, I still think of my self as a novice, probably always will, but will give it a go.
regards
Please do watch Miss-poly, it is a lovely programme. iplayer is not available if it is a 'community garden' programme though.
This is the second garden that they have used. The production team are very pro-gardening, so you don't get flashy shots. The gardeners are very professional as well. They are a good team who work well together.
Here is their website, have a look around.
I've just watched the 1st episode - very good, nice and cheerful with plenty of plant information. I shall certainly watch it on a regular basis I hope.
One of the lady presenters showed us Hyacinth 'Woodstock' the purple one, and I expect a lot of us have this. I do too and it's a gorgeous scent, some might think of petroleum, but a bit sweeter
I note they had it planted up in a pot with Hyacinth 'City of Harlem' a yellow one.
I've got mine with Narcissus 'Hawera' which wouldn't normally work as the daffodil flowers a bit later outside, but in the greenhouse they dance together, as below:-
john l- can you elucidate?
Hi Salino -lovely phoot - I bought some in a pot for indoors last year but had to banish them to the garden, my son could'nt take their purfume (hes a hayfever sufferer)I planted some in a pot in october put them in a dark place and forgot about them till March, took them out but they're not doing very well as yet, ones rotted the others are only just poking through, I think I must have done someting wrong, should I watered them or did I leave them in the dark too long or should I have brought them into the house not the garden. Oh well gardening all trial and error with me.
Now do not forget BB2 Scotland 7pm -
hi Miss-polly,
thanks, re the photo. It was a mistake actually, I had forgotten that I had resized it and it's rather small, so didn't do the plants justice.
Never mind.
I think these Hyacinths repay some good light and decent compost. I had my pot out of doors all winter, freezing like everywhere else, covered in snow and only moved the pot into greenhouse when I saw signs of shoots appearing.
They've been absolutely wonderful.
Of course you have to garden to suit your son too, but I always prefer my Hyacinths in pots. I'm not sure how well they do out of doors but my neighbour has a splendid row of mixed varieties all in flower and in full sun, here in East Anglia.
Tonight's Beechgrove was excellent. Let's hope they continue the way they've started the season.
For viewers like me living in the cold North-East Beechgrove Garden is much more realistic than gardening shows from the South. Here we are about 6 weeks behind and most shows don't really cater for this sort of climate. I used to garden in London and Essex - no comparison.
Who would have thought that with such a small island, there would be such a difference in the climate, I’m in the midlands and usually we are lucky with the weather, mind you we have had an earthquake and a tornado. Also Gardens World live is near, but Kew Gardens and Chelsea are too far day trips.

Thanks for the reminder, I'd not realised it was back on. I really enjoy it.
Eventually got around to watching Episodes 1&2- great to have BG back on the schedule. They certainly have had a rough time with the weather and will take some time before BG is back to normal. In saying that I thought Jim was looking good and back to his old self-he must have enjoyed his Winter "rest". Great
So no-one watched or was it so good that comments are not necessary? It was so good.
Did you see Carol's nails?

No they are not hers, they are mine.

Hi all,
I can't seem to get Beechgrove on iPlayer this season although I watched it no problem last time - is there a specific link I can try - maybe Samia could help me - please............
Here you go.
Don't know why my link was removed, was just a picture of my nails.
I'll try again.
For those of you who didn't watch Carol had her nails painted with lots of different colours just like mine.

Amazing - thanks for the link - my bookmarked link must be 'broken' - unlike your gorgeous nails - are they real!!!! (joke - of course they are....) mine are split, broken and permanently dirty - sigh...
[Unsuitable/Broken URL removed by Moderator]Â
Confused now- was it your nails that were broken or the link.
Could only look at your nails through some shades
and I thought they don't do much gardening.
To all that kindly responded to my comment about finding Beechgrove, I am pleased to confirm that I can still get it, even without Sky (which we got fed up with, it was costing us a fortune to watch adverts!.
What a lovely show...thank you for the iPlayer link...still a trace of condescending Blue Peter but lots of info and Oh the accent.
And that timber raised bed, could double as a fort. to keep out the English.
And was that Sandy Toksvig ?
What's BG doing on ´óÏó´«Ã½1 Scotland Friday 7-30pm ??? Dont remember Jim advising of change of slot or did I miss that bit ???.
Methinks its was changed because of the Prime Minister thing going on.
It's a mystery to me since it was listed in the press for Wednesday but East Enders was shown. There are no listings for tonight yet there is a fact sheet for the programme on their website.
