...what do people think?
It was ok but I won't be going out of my way to watch future episodes. Too much like other programmes and not all that informative.
As you say, not a lot of information.
And how many councils would give the average jo free willow?
A bit lightweight, especially after watching the Beechgrove garden.
I suspect that it will appeal to female would-be gardeners, who may be encouraged to grow some vegetables.
I try and watch all gardening programmes and take what I find useful from each. My fave is Carol Klein she's so passionate about all aspects of gardening and motivatecd me to start growning my own veg 3 years ago in a small plot. After watching Alyce Fowler tonight I am still unsure if my garden is large enough for 2 chickens. Did Alyce's chickens have free range? if not how big was the pen?

i enjoyed watching just to see how much space things take up as i am planting in my borders too its my first year of growing and i enjoyed the recipe ideas however i also feel there wasn't enough detail about the growing but i will watch again!
A triumph of style over content a bit like the Miss Dahl cooking programme lots of artsy animation cartoon and camera work yet disappointing from a purely content point of view.
I agree a little arty for me, but that Alyce's style and personality. Its good to see how you can grow in with the flowers, thats my style of gardening and I have to admit I have had people laugh at me ( not that I care ). I love the idea of growing pea shoots just to eat and not grow for the peas so will be doing that, question the chickens would like to know more about them, loved the supports she made and OH is going to have a go, but as mentioned - where does the average jo get "free" willow from ??.
I will watch again - toms next week and cues my favourite.

I loved it! Perhaps as a 20-something city-dweller, I am the target market?!! I don't think I would not have the time to look after chickens but I like the idea.
Found 'The Edible Garden' a big yawn. The idea isn't new, indeed I recommend you search out a copy of Geoff Hamilton's 'Ornamental Kitchen Garden'. Streets ahead of the latest offering!
Thanks for that. Just found it on Amazon as a DVD together with two other of Geoff's series. Added it to my wish list!
Thanks guys. I enjoyed it as it is something I would like to do with my own garden but I agree it is not exactly new - what were the original cottage gardens after all if they weren't veg grown with flowers? Liked the recipe ideas but agree the programme was very much "style" over "substance" and there could have been more about how to grow things and how to deal with pests and problems.
Agree it wasn't that informative. More practical advice, less faff and special effects please! I like the recipes though - nice touch.
Aw come on folks, it was great 'lose yourself' telly with clips of lovely warm summer evenings. If my neighbour wore a frock like Alyce's I would be in my garden alot more
Nothing new? well there isn't anything new in gardening is there? unless you in include diamond shape raised beds!
The sight of Alyce biting on that crisp Mange Tout must have inspired many to get in their garden. I give it the thumbs up!

Hi Gem,
I've posted this response on another thread - my partner is a willow worker and has mentioned that if you are using 'green' willow (just sticking fresh bits in the ground) it will root and it is a very invasive tree/shrub so you could think about dipping the ends in something non-toxic before you start - otherwise enjoy......
